Where to get reasonably priced wedding cake?

Where to get reasonably priced wedding cake?

This probably sounds quite stupid, but where can you find a basic wedding cake that is not super-expensive.

My wedding's in Manhattan, and the cheapest I found so far is $8/serving. The thing is, I already have a dessert buffet which comes with the reception, and I just want a standard wedding cake that we can cut. I don't need anything costume designed. I can't believe that I can't find a place that can deliver a standard wedding cake for less than $8/slice. Any suggestions?

There is an amazing place ... but it is out in Babylon. Their cakes are not terribly expensive. I have only had regular occassion cakes made there... but they are AWESOME.

Jacqueline's Patisserie is the name of the place. It is in Babylon Village on Main Street.

She uses only real butter and fresh ingredients. I LOVEEEEEE it there! :)

Try Veniero's on 11th between first and second. Everything they have is unbelievable. I'm looking at their wedding cake pamplet right now, and it looks like you can get a 4 tier wedding cake which serves 125-150 people for about $625 (price varies depending on if you get fillings, fruit, etc.). They also do sheet cakes - they pretty much have anything you would possibly want, and it's definitely the best bakery in nyc (I grew up 3 blocks away and used to go there ALL the time!).

ETA: Two little red hens (85th/86th and 2nd ave) is also very good, but VERY pricey, but I'd give them a call to see what they have to say...

Thanks. I've been to Veniero's, just never thought about ordering my cake from there. Great idea.
