Getting frustrated. Want to have engagement party on Sat Sept 25 (out of town family will be here then) for approx 50 people. Nothing too formal/fancy, just dinner, no DJ or dancing. Any suggestions?? Here is what we'd like... evening (6 or 7pm start), prefer open bar, but will settle for unlim beer, wine and soda, prefer sit-down dinner, but buffet is okay. I just don't want it too seem too much like a wedding. A friend of mine had an engagement party that was just like a wedding, DJ, tier cake, they were introduced (by MC), it was a little much for my taste. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also, want to keep it in Nassau (wester), we are in Queens. Thank you ALL in advance for any and all advice. Oops, almost fogot..budget MAXXX $2500 for all. -Jill

Re: Where to have E-Party???
This is what I did. It was about $1600-1700 for everything for 80 people on a Saturday night. We rented out the Knights of Columbus hall in our own for. We got all the decorations from Party City. We got a keg and my FSILmade some other drinks in a blender. We had a DJ to play music but no MC. The dinner was a buffet catered by the local deli. Everyone had so much fun! The only thing I would have done differently is hired a waitress because my mom and some other family members were working too much!

How about having a brunch? That's what we did. We even hired a Harpist for a couple of hours. It was really nice.

Re: Where to have E-Party???
Here's a suggestion:
Michael's in West Sayville
Very elegant place, on a beautiful lake, private party room, tapped in music for the background, choice of sit down or buffet. Food is OUT OF THIS WORLD, the chef is the owner and also a pastry chef, so the cake is included too (sheet cake with choice of filling-my suggestion, strawberry). You have a choice of open bar or 'beer, wine, soda' Choice of linen's, we went with RED for our theme. After all said and done, we had 50 people as well and the total was $40 pp (included tax & service) = $2000
Children 10yr and under 1/2 price, children 2yr and under eat FREE.
We went with the Buffet, because I felt like you got more food choices that way.
We had our E-party there and everyone raved about it.
Michael is the owner and Chef, it is a family run bussiness. It is located on 21 Montuak Hwy in West Sayville #631-567-3838
Best of luck!

Re: Where to have E-Party???
Peppercorn's in Hicksville has a private room upstairs and they may be in your budget. We had our rehearsal dinner there. Their prices rance from $27- $37 a head and there is a beautiful bar right in the private room. We had an open bar sit down dinner and it was $33 a head. They do offer a buffet dinner as well and I believe it was a bit cheaper!!

Re: Where to have E-Party???
I had mine in the Dockside room at Chateau la Mer for about that much. We had a sit down dinner, simple cake (no tiers), open bar, etc. We kept it toned down so it wasn't too wedding-like (I also didn't want that).
I also recommend Tazio on Sunrise hwy in Wantagh. Though Saturday night might be a problem but it might be worth looking into. Another place you can try: my friend had her wedding reception at Come Prima in Copiague (right next door to Lidia's Bridal Salon) and it was very nice... place can hold about 100 people in their private party room.
