know this has been posted again and again, but I need some help and suggestions. I live in Park Slope. I LOVE it here, but absolutely cannot afford to buy here. Its disgusting. A small 2 bedroom condo is at least 699K. Its crazy!
Soooo, We are thinking of Queens or Nassau.
We are looking for a neighborhood with a reasonable commute to the city or brooklyn, with a good school system, with stuff to do, and with a decent sized Jewish population (we are reform, but just don't want our kids to be the only Jewish kids in school). we are thinking of
Forest Hills Long Beach Merrick
If anyone lives in anyone of these areas, or can recommend an area that sounds like what I described, I'd greatly appreciate it.
TIA!

Re: Where to live? (xpost from newlywed)
Have you looked into Great Neck? They have a ton of great restaurants and shops. Houses tend to be more on the pricey side, but they have a ton of co-op buildings.

I've heard that Great Neck is really nice, but the listings I saw for houses were out of our league -- didn't look into co-op's -- thanks!

Great Neck Oceanside Lynbrook

I grew up in Merrick and for a Jewish population you would have to look into South Merrick.
I would recommend Oceanside. A couple of neighborhoods that might have more religious populations are Great Neck, West Hempstead.

Thanks, I don't want religious at all -- I'm VERY reform, but I just don't want my kids to be the only Jewish kids in public school -- I'd love to find a place with a nice reform congregation, and close then city, and with good public schools -- and with things to do -- asking too much?

I think for that South Merrick and Oceanside are good options. I grew up in North/Central Merrick which has a very small Jewish population. Also, most of the Jewish communities on the North Shore tend to be more religious communities.

I think Forest Hills, Rego Park, Kew Gardens area is great...if you like the 'city' ness of Park Slope and/or work in NYC youll like it there.
Greak Neck is a good choice too but def more suburban..dont know if your looking for that can get to manhatten by LIRR easily. Bayside is a good in between city/suburb and also has LIRR...HTH
