Let's face it - I'm a size 18 on a good day. I am what our grandmother's politely call 'big-boned'.
Are they ANY salons/shops out there that actually stock samples somewhere near my size (besides David's)? I would like to have a clearer picture of what I am buying than being packed and pinned into a size 14. The size 12 -- was just sort of held up to my front to get the 'effect'. These dresses are small anyway - so you can imagine my ... depression!
Anyone got a suggestion before I commit hari-kari?

I am almost positive that RK Bridal in NYC has a selection. You might want to call before hand just to double check but I could swear that they do.

Lillette's in Baldwin have a good selection of plus size dresses. ( I bought my dress from them)
Also Bridal Reaflections (though they can be a bit on the $$ side)

Lestan's on Ralph Avenue in Brooklyn had a LARGE selection of plus size gowns. I couldn't imagine ordering a dress based on what I MIGHT look like in it.
My gown was $1030 total with all alterations. It was a Mary's gown & is beautiful.
In any case, make anonymous calls to bridal shops & ask if they carry samples in plus sizes.

I second RK Bridal, they had a lot of plus size styles. You will definitely find dresses under $1000 there.
I purchased my gown at Macy's Bridal Salon in Manhasset and I had no problem trying samples on. I was able to get a Demetrios gown for $950 (about $1200 with tax and alterations)

i havent gone theire but ' Kay ann bridal shop' on franklin avenue in franklin square... when i called up asking about their regualar alfred angelo line, she said they only had a couple, but they had 'alot in plus size if i were interested'

I spent 700.00 on my dress and bought it Lillettes in baldwin was even able to try it on in my size

Bridal Suite in Patchogue had a decent amount, and so did Lilette's.

Estelle's (on 110) has some. Also Alisa's Bridal in Brooklyn (across the street from Lestan's, used to be called the Bridal Outlet) had alot.
