FH & I got engaged in Jan and we've kind of been taking it easy until now... We think it's time to start planning for the big day... We're not set on a date yet but we'd like it to be Sept of '08...
Where did you ladies start with your planning? We're thinking of going 'shopping' for the reception hall first to secure a date.. then booking the church... then taking it from there...
**Kinda clueless - never done this before**
Thanks!

Congrats! Welcome to LIWeddings.

Re: Where to start?
I would also say that the first thing to book is the church and reception hall, but the first thing you need to do is set a budget and figure out who's paying for what!
Congrats and good luck!!

Re: Where to start?
welcome and congratulations!!
yeah, you should start with the rh right away, that way you can get an idea of what everything will LOOK like and what kind of space you're working with. then book the church, then worry about everything else after that.
the order we've gone in so far is:
rh officiant dj photographer videographer
and i think next step is florist. that seems to have worked well for us so far.
happy planning!!!

Welcome and Congrats!
I did the hall first. I'm getting married there but you should book the hall and church around the same time. If there is a church you really want like a childhood church you grew up with secure that first. After I start with photography and videography and then DJ.

Re: Where to start?
FH and I went totally opposite. We had our engagement party first (well after 4 months) and it really brought us together in planning an event together. It gave our families a chance to meet and it was a good transition to have everyone together at one party. We knew we would have people help for the wedding and relatives gave a couple thousand towards the everything so now we can book things and have the cash to do so off the bat. FH likes doing one thing at a time so we don't get overwhelmed. We are in a good place now and we can move on to the next step without stressing too much!

Welcome and congrats!!!
Definetly start with the hall then the church. Then after you have secured those then you can go on to the other stuff. Such as DJ/band, Photographer, Video, Flowers, limos, etc.

Re: Where to start?
Welcome and congrats!!! I would get familiar with doing searches on here, checking vendor lists and reading brides reviews and then asking MANY questions to the ladies here.
I would deff. to the hall first but before that figure out how many people you are inviting and how much is your budget then what fh and i did was discuss what was important features to have at our hall and then we narrowed down the list from there.
THEN search and make as many appointments and see as much as you can and taste as much as you can (bridal shows) really get a sense of the hall and its service and food.
