Where to start!!!

Where to start!!!

I just got engaged last week! My fiance and I are hoping for an August 2010 wedding. I have just been browsing through the posts and already feel so behind on the planning!

He is from LI and I am from Ohio. He has much bigger family so we are going to have the wedding in LI. Since, I am not too familiar with the area I'm not sure where to start looking for venues. We want to be on the water - can anyone suggest some good places to start??

To start, the link that Bride825 gave you can be a big help. There's also a great reception hall guide here on LIW.

Reception Hall Planning Guide

Ask questions, start threads, write up on posts. This site is a GODSEND for LI brides. I'm not sure I could plan my wedding without it!

Re: Where to start!!!

How many ppl? how much per person before tax are you budgeting for? Some things to consider when you're looking at RHs.

Water...so many places in LI...but it depends on your budget. Beach, lake or any water will do...like fountains, harbors, etc?

Re: Where to start!!!

Welcome & congrats!!

Def check out the reception planning guide. Also, google Long Island Reception Halls for a few more. Decide how many people you have and make sure the RH's that you like can hold that many people. Then you can call and try and get some quotes so you know if it's in your budget before visiting. Some places don't do over the phone pricing, and don't let a price that is a LITTLE above your budget throw you off. Everything is negotiable.

Also, when you have an idea of what you want (specific location, size, on water/by gardens, price range, etc!) ask around on the boards for suggestions. Everyone is very helpful & friendly!
