We had a couple contractors come in but they totally ****ed.
How do people normally do this?
Do you find each seperate service on your own or get someone who does it all?
Ahhh

Re: Where to start Kitchen Remodel?
Im in the same process as you are right now. We have had so many contractors come in that I am really sick of the whole thing at this point.
In any event, its really important for us to get someone who does almost everything if not everything. We want to make sure we get someone who is experienced, has good relationships with suppliers and can give us ideas about things working/looking/pricing right. Plus, the aggravation of finding just this one guy is enough to make me realize I dont want to deal with finding additional handyman or installers - i just want it done!
Some contractors want you to order the cabinets b/c they dont want to deal with any measuring mistakes - so be careful of that! I want them to take care of the measuring as well as any mistakes that get made or any problems with delivery.

Re: Where to start Kitchen Remodel?
I can tell you from my own experience with a kitchen remodel that it is an incredibly stressful experience. There are a million decisions that you will have to make along the way and there will be times when you will wonder why you ever started!
The best thing you can do for yourself is to hire a contractor that is knowlegable and that you are comfortable with. The contractor that we used did all of the work except for painting. Our cabinets came from a kitchen cabinet store which was recommended by the contractor, but we could have used anyone that we wanted. They helped us with designing the layout and then they came and measured. Because my contractor had a working relationship with the cabinet store when there was a problem with one of the cabinets being the wrong size I didn't even have to get involved. The contractor contacted the cabinet store, they reordered the correct size and all was well. No extra charge to me.
You do need to do your research so you know what you want, but a good contractor will help you with suggestions, recommendations and problems.
I wish you luck. Believe me the end result will be worth all the work!! . I love my kitchen!!!

Re: Where to start Kitchen Remodel?
We had a seperate person for everything. One to hang the cabinets, tile the floor and backsplash, granite man, plumber and wallpaperer. The only one I would use again would be my tile guy. FM me if you would like more info.

Re: Where to start Kitchen Remodel?
The previous owner of the house we just bought had the kitchen remodeled about 6 - 9 mos ago. She did a lot of reasearch (she was a very organized & thorough person) and was highly satisfied with the work that was done. She left me the name of the people who did the kitchen - I can post the info tomorrow (it's at home and our computer's not hooked up yet...). You can at least call them for a quote/info, if you like.
