Where to stay after reception?

Okay, so i have a lot of people coming to my wedding from upstate new york who have never been further south than the finger lakes. They will not really know their way around, wont like the expense of things, etc...

My church is about 40 minutes from my reception. But the area the church is in is nice and accessible to the airports for out of town guests etc...

I had always thought it made sense to spend the night out by the reception place but my dad thinks that its better to have family by the church since its more central for getting around.

Do you think people will be upset that they have to drive 35-40 to a hotel after the reception or will they be happy that they dont have to switch hotels between friday and saturday because it makes no sense for them to stay way out on Long Island Friday night and then drive in for the rehearsal dinner and then back for the church, etc...

Sorry so long, just trying to get other opinions. I want this to work out to be the easiest for as many people possible so i dont have to worry about a random great uncle getting lost.

I think it's probably better to have people staying closer to the reception after it's over. You don't know how many cocktails they will have and everything.

My church and reception are 35 minutes away from each other and the reception is more east so my guests from upstate who are coming in a day early are staying farther east.
