DH's family is catholic and mine is jewish, so our only big issue is thanksgiving. last year we actually all got together at his parent's house but that only worked out because my grandparents were in massachusetts. this year i don't know what we will do, our apartment is big but not that big
what are you guys planning on doing?

Re: where will you spend the holidays?
so far we have split them and it kind of works out perfect: Easter - my uncles Thanksgiving - my house and then sometimes dessert with his family - we sometimes spilt up. Christmas Eve - his family - very big Italian thing - my family doesn't do a big Christmas eve dinner - his does so it works out perfect Christmas Day - my house I think really Thanksgiving will be the only issue...maybe that can be 'our' holiday and we can have everyone over our house

Re: where will you spend the holidays?
DH and I have lived together for 2 years, so we actually have this routine down finally....
We decided to alternate Holidays each year, and whichever family we don't get to see, we go there the day before/after instead.
Example, this year: Thanksgiving - my family, day after we'll spend with his. Christmas day - his family, Christmas Eve - my family. Next year will be the opposite. We're fortunate enough to be close enough to do that (his fam is in NJ, mine in LI), but I know that's not the case for everyone.
If it's not possible to combine for Thanksgiving - can you arrange something like that?

our families live very close together fortunately, so yes, that would definitely be doable. i have decided not to worry too much until after the wedding, but i guess the biggest issue is that my FILs own a body shop and i don't think they close the day after thanksgiving, so i don't know how that would work on alternating years. i am thinking we will do it so that this year we have dinner with one and dessert with the other and vice versa next year.

Re: where will you spend the holidays?
For us, I said that I wanted to do Christmas at our place this year - it would be our first married Christmas, my first married birthday (Christmas day), and our first major family gathering.
So right now it looks like:
Thanksgiving - my mom's house. Maybe she'll invite FH's parents over too, since they usually do something VERY small at FH's house, this would work well.
Christmas Eve - the big dinner and gifts etc are done on Christmas eve. FH and I will be hosting at our new place.
Christmas Day - chill out and celebrate my b-day.
New Years - no idea
Easter - my mom's? Not sure.

We have done an every other year thing. One year we have Christmas Eve at my parents and Christmas wit hhis family and the next we flip it.
So far it has been working out really well, once we have kids we may change things a bit

Re: where will you spend the holidays?
Fh and I have very small families, so it has been easy to incorporate his into mine.
I do thanksgiving at my home, inviting my sis and her family, and her in-lays including an aunt & uncle. I invite my FMIL and FFIL, and with my Dad we wind up being 13 people.
To make everyone fit, I move my dining room table into the living room, add a smaller table and have a huge spread with plenty of room to move about. The couch, chair and coffee table are moved into the dining room to create an intimate seating area.
Christmas Eve is done at my sis's house, but she does not invite my in-laws.
Now my Dad has a lady friend, and he is planning on moving in with her, so I don't know how that is going to affect the holiday set-up.
I really want to keep the family together, especially since my mom died 3 years ago.

Re: where will you spend the holidays?
We split -
Thanksgiving - my fam Christmas eve - my fam Christmas day- his fam Easter - his fam
We've always done this. Sometimes for holidays that we aren't with his family, they will have another day on top of the holiday that we will spend together so holidays turn into holiweeks for us But it works and is the most fair.

Re: where will you spend the holidays?
Thankfully for me FH's family doesn't really do anything for any other holiday than Christmas, and they do that the first Sat. after the 25th. It really works out nice because then they all the the whole day together with eachother and no one has to rush off to see the next family........plus it works for me becuase then we get to spend the actually holiday with my family which is really important to me!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: where will you spend the holidays?
We usually end up splitting up, but I've been thinking about this a lot lately.
Thanksgiving--big issue. My fam is big and always does something. FH's family is him, his mom and brother. Ideally, I'd combine it and have them come over but his mom NEVER says yes and insists on cooking this huge dinner and just sitting around looking at each other. I go there early in the day and FH comes over in the evevning.
Christmas Eve-his family. They do it big.
Christmas Day-my family. FH's family doesn't do much of anything.
New Year's-free for all...depends on if we have plans.

Re: where will you spend the holidays?
We are both Jewish...we do one day at one parent, the other day at the other parent...however, regarding Thanksgiving, we will be on our honeymoon this Thanksgiving and we plan on avoiding the trouble by going on an anniversary trip...but what you can do is what I do on my custody cases...odd years one family, even the other...HTH

Re: where will you spend the holidays?
Thanksgiving and Easter will be on a year to year basis- FH has children from a previous marriage, so it will depend if we have them that year or not.
Christmas Eve- FHs parents house Christmas Day- with my parents/family
