where's my dress? the next chapter!

where's my dress? the next chapter!

So I just called the salon again, and got the same answer -- dress stuck in customs, should be about 1-2 more weeks. I said that I was told 1-2 weeks, but that was 2 weeks ago. Then I said that a friend who worked in customs (actually another LIW-er who thankfully FMed me that info!) told me that stuff from Spain clears customs in about 3 days so I really just want to know what is going on.

Now she is checking with her manager, but at least they scheduled my first fitting in 2 weeks from now, on the assumption the dress will actually be there. They also keep trying to justify not scheduling fittings because my weight will probably change. My weight hasn't changed in 10 years, it isn't going to change in the next 10 weeks! They don't seem to understand that not every bride crash diets before the wedding.

My guess is that the dress isn't actually in the US yet and they are using the customs story as an excuse for something else. I would be totally P-O'ed if that were the case because this is a very nice 5th ave salon in manhattan and I don't expect this kind of nonsense.

Is there a number they can give you to call in Spain and find out the info yourself.

I know its annoying that you want to do fittings now but it is the norm to do it 6-8 weeks before. So the bridal store is just going by the regular schedule they do. Not always bc a bride crash diets lol, but it can get so crazy towards the end that they lose weight. I actually tried my best not to lose any weight after my last fitting bc at last fitting it fit perfect and i didnt want it to be loose. But I had so much running around to do and stress that I did lose the weight, i even tried eating lots of pasta the week before my wedding and eating fatty things bc i noticed i was losing weight quickly which i didnt expect the last 2 weeks but i still kept losing weight although thats not what i wanted at all. The dress ended up being a little loose on me. I even know some brides who eat bc of the stress and gain weight.

Right now my first fitting is scheduled for 8 weeks before the wedding (they scheduled one even though they dress isn't phyiscally there yet), and that is because I need to pick up my dress one week or so early and my mom is visiting that weekend and she won't be in again most likely til me wedding.

I know lots of people lose and gain weight due to stress, but luckily I don't. When i say my weight hasn't changed in 10 years, I am actually not kidding. I only dropped weight twice, once for mono and once for another illness, the the second I got better my weight went right back to where I always am!

oh i believe you that your weight hasnt changed. The bridal store just doesnt want to take a chance. They dont know you personally and they probably hear brides say i wont lose or gain weight and then it happens. So they would rather be safe than sorry.

Good luck with this!! Sorry you've gotten the run around so much. I'm sure the dress will arrive soon and it will all work out.

I was actually talking about your post at dinner the other night. My father is a manufacturer and ships machines all over the world and orders parts for his machines from all over the world. He said he has used and heard that excuse many times, its the oldest trick in the book.

I think they are probably covering for something else. Possibly they took your deposit to pay an outstanding bill and didn't have the money to order your dress right away. Hopefully it will get resolved soon.

PS: My father is also pissed because he has to ship these multimillion dollar, extremely complex machines in 4 weeks and I had to order my wedding dress 10 months out. He has been bitching about this to all of his customers.

I worked for a freight forwarder, the customs excuse is just that 'an excuse'.

If you want to scare the store even more, say 'Can I have the container number so that my friend can look up the container with US customs to see what the hold up is?' They'll prob die that you know about shipments. The manager might be forced to tell you the truth...

If you need help FM me, I know the ins and outs of imports from Spain
