Can you show us a picture of the dress... it would make it much easier for me to visualize!!!
they are both such nice, rich colors... I would have trouble deciding too... I would probably ask what my BMs think... what color eyes and hair do they have... a red head might not be as happy in reds... Or maybe which color would go better with flowers that you like...

have you ever seen sterling silver roses? They are GORGEOUS!! They are a purply color... those would look awesome with the amethyst dress...

Ok, here's a completely Bridezilla response: Which color looks best on you? Your bridal party is your back drop. Have you seen each color next to you? Both colors are pretty. I'm leaning towards the merlot simply because I find it a more elegant color. That said, the amethyst is quite pretty as well.
