My rottie is a shedding machine.....when we get dog #2, I'd prefer something that doesn't shed too much!

Poodles are a good choice. They actually have hair rather then fur.

I agree. I've also heard that most Terriers are non-shedding. OH, and Bichon Frise is another non-shedding breed.
A lot of breeders are cross-breeding Poodles with Labs and such to give people the option of having their favorite breed with non-shedding coats.

Yes, poodles or goldendoodles/ labradoodles . They are considered hypo-allergenic!

Just be careful if you want one of these, because not all puppies of lab/poodle crosses are hypoallergenic. It depends on which genes the puppy gets, he could get the lab fur genes which would still cause allergies.

dogs with 'hair' rather than 'fur' shed less: maltese poodles etc...
Obviously Chinese Cresteds don't shed either. For the MOST part people with allergies are OK with them.. but it must be remembered that with ANY dog they still have saliva & dander

the dogs that have 'hair'...don't they require more maintenance and grooming??? We tend to be lazy with our dog.... shame on me

well, they defiatly need to be grroomed b/c it keeps growing out. unlike dogs with fur who shed a new coat. (even though Dharma [chinese crested] is hairless i still have to shave/groom her muzzle)

I just got a Cairn Terrier, Brody. The max out at 15 lbs (if they don't get fat) Check out my chat pic. He has hair, not fur. They are supposed to be good for people with allergies, and they really don't shed.

I have seen alot of this breed amongst the adoptable dogs at shelters/rescues.
Can you tell me more about it? He is so cute!

my parents have the bichon - and she doesn't shed....but she requires constant grooming...or she turns into a big knotty mess....even if you miss one day of grooming. very difficult to keep up with her. but she's cute as can be and a friendly little bugger!!

I researched it and the Bichon always tops the list of best dogs for allergy sufferers. In the end, I ignored all of my research and got a dachshund. He is short haired but he is not considered low on dander production.

you have to be careful when you purchase a cross breed such as labdoodle or goldendoodle because they sometimes tend to be high strung and nippy call a humane shelter for recommendations or ask your vet because bad breeding can have horrible results
