Which is correct?

Which is correct?

If the cost of the wedding is being divided into thirds (my parents, FH's parent, and us), what is the proper wording of the invite? I have a preference, but I won't say which because I want an honest opinion. Thanks.

(1) Mr. and Mrs. Bride's parents invite you to celebrate the marriage of their daughter
bride's name
to groom's name
son of Mr. and Mrs. Groom's parents

OR

(2) Mr. and Mrs. Bride's parents and Mr. and Mrs. Groom's parents invite you to celebrate the marriage of their children
Bride
and
groom

We're in the same boat...

We are using #2!

If you put the bride's parents invite you, that's like saying they paid for the entire affair, that wouldn't be fair to you or your FIL's!

The first one sort of implys that your parents are paying for the wedding. I think the second one, but that's JMO.

Re: Which is correct?

what about bride's name and groom's name together with their parents request the honor . . . or #2

I believe that #2 is correct. The first one implies that bride's parents are paying for the wedding.

I had the same situation and I used #2

We have sort of a similar situation, except we are paying half (more than half really) and the parents are splitting the other half -- so quarters for them). So we put our names first and then said 'together with their parents Mr & Mrs. .... and Mr. & Mrs. ...'

not sure if you like that but it's another option. Good luck!

I LIKE THE #2

Oh, pooey. I liked #1 better. I thought it flowed better. Oh well. I thought about just putting 'together with their parents', but I really wanted their names on it. Thanks so much everyone. I really wasn't expecting so many responses so quickly. You ladies are the best. Even if you don't tell me what I want to hear!

Re: Which is correct?

You're welcome!

Here's why I'm not using 'together with their parents' well like you, I want their names on it and I also want them to feel important... I dont know... JMO!

Even though I am contributing money I'd rather the parents have the credit... if I don't put their names, it's kinda like there just there... I hope that makes sense...

But, let me stress, there is NOTHING wrong with the 'together with their parents one' it's just my personal opinion!

Edited to say: you liked #1 better and it seems to flow easier ONLY because it's the most common one, ya know?

Re: Which is correct?

If your parents and his parents are paying an equal amount, it is not fair to use the wording in #1 because it implies that your parents are the only ones paying. Go with #2 or with 'Together with their parents, Bride and Groom invite you to....' The last option is actually the most accurate for your situation.

Edtited to add: oops just saw that you don't like the together with their parents option, in that case I would go with #2!

Re: Which is correct?

in #1, only your parents are doing the inviting - so its not really proper given the situation.

Re: Which is correct?

Ok I'll do #2, but I have to say that I know people who were in the same situation as me and did it wrong! They used #1. I definitely see what it implies though. Thanks again!

I also agree that #2 is the right way to go. Sorry!

Re: Which is correct?

I'm in the same situation as you and I agree that the #2 doesn't flow so well. I think we're going to say:

Mr. and Mrs. Bride's Parents
together with
Mr. and Mrs. Groom's Parents
invite you to celebrate
the marriage uniting their children
Bride
and
Groom

I like this because it shows that our parents are co-hosting, but there aren't so many 'ands.'

Have you looked at verseit.com? They have tons of wording suggestions.

I think # 2 is correct.

lesleyw - thank you sooooo much. I love it! I think it was all of the 'and's' that were bugging me.

I think #2 sounds a little better!

I like the one lesleylw wrote or the one JoRo put down. Those both sound really nice.
