I live in DC and am coming up to NY for another one of my 'wedding blitz' weekends (where I try to cram in as much wedding planning as I can!). I am scheduling makeup trials and also wanted to look for a veil.
Question is, I am not 100% sure what style of updo I want on the big day. I like french twists, but I think I would prefer to have my veil lower (on the back) of my head instead of on 'top' of it. I think if the veil was on the back of my head, the veil would mess up the french twist.
Should I try to have a hair trial first and let that dictate the type of veil to look for, or look at veils first and let it influence my hairstyle? IS IT WISE TO GO TO A HAIR TRIAL WITHOUT BRINGING A VEIL ALONG?
Any advice is appreciated.

You really should buy the veil and head piece before your trial. They will need it to do your hair.

I would do a hair trial first. I found that you really dont need your veil with you. But you do have to know where you want the veil placed. This could effect what hairstyle would work.

If you are wearing hair pins or a tiara you will need to bring that with you on your hair trial.

My hair/make-up person will do my hair, then help me to pick out the veil, headpiece and jewelry that best goes with my hairstyle, dress, etc.
Having said that- I think you should first find what hairstyle you like- then look for veil and headpiece that complement it.

I did hair trial first and hadn't chosen a veil or hair pins yet. I just knew I would not be wearing a tiara.

I was told to have hair pieces, tiara and the veil if I was using any of those for the hair trial.

Looks like there are some differing opinions on whether the veil is needed first. What I am taking from this is that it is a good idea to have the veil first but it is not absolutely necessary. I agree that I should know whether I intend to use hair pins or a tiara before I get a hair trial. I am going to spend more time trying to clip pictures of hairstyles and veils I like before I set up appointments.

It depends on the style you are considering for your hair & which is more important to you. I personally got my tiara based on how I wanted my hair, so it didn't matter that much, but I did wear my tiara to my trial (well one like it anyway).
It really depends on what you think you will do.
I say look online for some tiara styles & them maybe minimize your shopping by knowing what you want, maybe that will make it easier to have the tiara without delaying the hair trial
