While on the subject of Gardens!

While on the subject of Gardens!

I have tried 2 different types of plants to the side of the waterfalls, you can see pots of plants in this picture, but neither of the 2 types I have tried survived more than 2 weeks. They are watered as often as the other flowers in the other flower beds. Does anyone have any suggestions of flowers that would be more hardy and be able to survive for next Spring/ Summer?

Thank you for any advice you could give

i'm not much of a gardener, but i just wanted to say your yard looks great! I have always had good luck with impatiens or pansies. they are pretty hardy and i think can do well in sun or shade. i can't tell if you already have them, but dahlias are nice too. i haven't killed any of those either!

First off .. that pond is gorgeous .. I'd like to have something similar in our backyard. Can I ask .. is it much trouble to take care of??? And about how much does something like that cost to install???

Second .. not sure what's going on with your plants .. do the roots have enough room to grow???

I admit, I'm not much of a gardener, either .. but I've had great success with New Guinea Impatiens and Petunias.

Decorative grasses are very popular by water features.

You might also want to consider where you are buying your plants from .. I've pretty much never had success with anything from Home Depot the few times I've bought stuff from them ..

I much prefer going to nurseries (lots along Deer Park Avenue) or farm stands .. there's a great farm stand in Melville on the north side of Ruland Road, just west of Pinelawn Road .. they have awesome stuff .. amazing corn, great plants (mums in the fall are better than anywhere .. and fresh-cut sunflowers .. best ever!!) .. very cool little place!

If you are getting your plants from a nursery or something like that .. you should bring them back .. maybe they'd replace them??? Or at the very least, maybe they could discuss with you what might be the problems.

Re: While on the subject of Gardens!

Keeping in mind that I didn't not start any planting until July, by and large almost all of the flowers I have planted have done well! It is just in this area that they keep dying and since I have tried 2 different types of plants I am thinking it is something about the area. However, these groups of white impantents have popped up all over the property after I planted and one of them popped up in the middle of the waterfall and they are doing great- go figure

All my plants were bought at different nurseries so I know that it not them in particular. Oh well, I will figure it out--LOL

We do have some decorative grass that was planted next to the waterfall and next to another flower bed here are some pictures of that. The lilies that you see staked here were planted by the original owners as was the azelea bush. You can see what I am talking about with the impatients popping up all over. In the Fall I am going to move the Lillies into a group in another flower bed because right now they are scattered in 4 different beds and they like stark.

(Please forgive the shadows I just went out and took these now.)

Just to throw these in here are some pictures of our fish (there are 19 of them in the pond)

Here are a couple picture of some of the flower beds in the front.

The pond was put in by the original owners children, the daughter told me it took around 2 months, but they also did not use a form.

To maintain it is pretty easy. DH cleans the filter every 2 weeks or so, I feed them everyday. You have to test the water, like you do with a pool. You have to watch the water levels (Like with the rain the last couple of days that it doesn't get to high or to low) passed that there is nothing to really worry about. It is nice! The first sound I hear in the morning through my windows is the sound of the waterfall. That is a nice way to wake up!!!

Thank you all for the advice, if anyone has any other advice I would love to hear it

Jamie I wish I could help you but I have no clue when it comes to plants!!!!!

Your pond and beds look AMAZING Though!!!!

IMO they don't even need flowers... the fish, and the statues, as well as the moss make it look naturally amazing!!!!

I will ask hubby when he gets home. He has made many ponds for customers, and I will see what type of plants he uses when building them.
