While we are taking polls...

Are you all using a band or DJ, and if so who are you using? Also, if you feel like sharing how much you are spending that would be great. I have not booked music yet...

I really wanted band but had to go with a dj for cost. I am happy with the decision. Spin Around sound - $1500

I am using a DJ.
I am using Hypnotic Sounds (a friend) and I am paying whatever I want. Really! He says to give him what I want to. He has 10 yrs experience, light, smoke and bubble machines, party favors (if you want them) and he is very experienced, well priced and caring and dressed in a tux (of course). He brings back up equipment, and an asst.
He is also not crazy expensive for a paying customer, like I see all these other dj's charging!

We are having a dj, Get in Tune Productions. I believe our total price is around $2300. including the hoop-dee light package and we are having steel drums in the cocktail hour and a percussionist during the reception. That is for a 5 hr reception and ceremony music.

We have a DJ. We are using MixMasters. He is a good friend of ours & is only charging us $475 for 5 hrs.

It was a tough decision for me...but I fell in love with my hall and since that was a little pricier than other halls, I decided to save in the reception music....I justify it to myself (and this is true...) that I would rather hear the original song...its really a personal choice...also remember you have to pay for the dinner of ALL the band memebers...

that being said...I have spinaroundsound...basic package for 4 hours (have string trio for ceremony and cocktail) for $1449...no lights...no favors...

I agree with Yabbobay I prefer to hear the song EXACTLY as I know it. We're having a local DJ that everyone swears by. DJ James (Jimmy) McGuire. We've heard from over 10 people that he's fantastic & will play whatever we want. He's charging $950. We haven't decided though if we are using him for the cocktail hour so it might change.

I wish we had a friend in the business

My FH wanted the whole 9 yards with the dj...I tried to talk him into scaling back, but he wouldnt have it.

At first I wanted a band, but when I compared prices, I figured I'd save at least $3-4K by using a DJ, and another plus is that you hear the songs exactly as they are heard. Also, you may have more variety with a DJ - they can play anything from classical to heavy metal if you want them to - a band would probably be more limited to classic rock and jazz, etc.

We had a band - Current Affair and they were amazing. I was always a DJ person myself but my husband wouldn't have any of that, so we went with the band - and I'm so glad we did. They were AWESOME- they made the whole party!

Even my dad who was protesting the band was thrilled with them.

They were $4800 which included cocktail hour music.

We are having a band. We're using Ful House. They are $4000 and that includes cocktail hour.

We went with a DJ....Body Rock for $2,000. This is for 5 hours, medium light show and a live singer.

Both my cousins just had weddings where bands performed (one had DayBreaks Night and the other had Timepiece) and the band absolutely MADE the wedding. So I am very happy with my decision to have the band Heart and Soul perform at my reception . If I had to cut back on something else in my budget to provide my guests with a live band, I would.
