Anyone out there with a white gold engagement ring? Mine is starting to turn a bit yellow, and I have only had it for 8 months. Is this normal?

Re: White Gold
My engagement ring is platinum, but I have one of my great grandmothers rings thats white gold and it looks a little yellowy so i guess so.

Re: White Gold
It is normal. White gold needs to be polished in rhodium every now and then to keep it looking fresh. At least that's what my jeweler told me, so if anyone knows anything different, please share!

JennRenee your jeweler is correct. It has to be polished in rodium every now & again.

Re: White Gold
My white gold e-ring started to yellow and I just had it rhodiumed. My FFIL is a jewler and did it for me. It came out beautiful. You will have to do this every so often as the 'white' will wear away. The rougher you are with your ring, the more it will wear away. If you take it to be rhodiumed, it will look brand new and shinny again
(white gold is not actually white, but whiter than yellow gold. The white you see is actually a platnium coating that they rhodium onto the ring.)

Re: White Gold
Thanks guys, we were beginning to get worried! I am kind of hard on my hands, so that is probably why it is starting to look yellow to me. I think I will get it rhodiumed before the wedding in Nov. so it matches my wedding band. Thanks girls!
Hey, does this rhodium plating cost alot?

Re: White Gold
My jeweler, and I think most others, do rhodium polishing for free.

Re: White Gold
It doesn't cost that much to do..I don't work far from the diamond district and they do it right in front of you. But how much time is every now and then?

Re: White Gold
I got engaged in October of 1999, and I've had my ring polished twice since then. I got married last July, and haven't had to polish my wedding ring yet. I hope that gives you an idea of how infrequently white gold needs to be polished.
