After I got mine sized, it seems that the part of the band that you see when you look at my palm is now yellow gold. Did anyone else have this problem?
Mine is 18k White Gold. Can I do anything about it? I haven't told my FI - I don't want to upset him after all the $$ he spent.

Re: White Gold Engagement Ring question
I don't have a white gold ring, but I think I remember the jewler telling me that there is a coating put on white gold that wares down over time. Maybe when they were resizing your ring, this coating got worn down. I would take it to the people who sized it and point out the color difference. They should be able to fix it, I think.

Re: White Gold Engagement Ring question
It is way too soon for that to happen. Take it to your jeweler. White gold does fade a little after time and looks yellowish but I think it takes quitea whole for this to happen, years.

Re: White Gold Engagement Ring question
That is normal...white gold can trun yellow after a while. Most white gold has rhodium over it to give it the white luster look. After a while, with all of the ware it does turn yellow. You can bring it to you jeweler every so often to get it polished and replated with rhodium.

That is how I found out mine was white gold. It is normal! FH should not get upset! You just have to have it redipped!
Also beware pools will turn it-especially pools at hotels, resorts or public because of the amount of chlorine that they have to use!

Re: White Gold Engagement Ring question
I got engaged 12/00 and mine still looks good. It's hard to tell, it looks like it may be a bit yellowish. I will have to take it to a jeweler and have it dipped.

Re: White Gold Engagement Ring question
tell your fiance, he wont be upset, i use to work at a jewlery store, white gold is a MIX of yellow gold and other metals to make it white gold... as the time goes on you start to see some of the yellow coming through it is VERY normal

Re: White Gold Engagement Ring question
mine is white gold too. it depends on the way it was made. usually they apply the rhodium plating on top of yellow gold to make it white and then after time it turns yellowish.
my ring has already started to turn a bit yellow on the bottom- i think. i got the ring dec 2002- i thought it would have lasted longer.

Re: White Gold Engagement Ring question
Mine has started to get a yellowish tint to it on the part that goes along my palm. I was freaked out by it at first, but I'm told it's normal, so I'm not too worried. If it gets to be too bad, I'll have it dipped. I've only been engaged 5 months, so it may be a little soon for that to happen, but it's not abnormal.

I have had mine for 2 years with no problem. But its usual that the color changes. Have them rotium the ring again heavy so that it wont change

Re: White Gold Engagement Ring question
If your jeweler told you it was platinum, then I see reason to be upset, however, this happens with white gold and like the ladies said, you get it dipped and it will be like new again.

Re: White Gold Engagement Ring question
OMG! This happened to me and I was freaking out! To size the ring, they cut it and weld it together with a piece of gold leaf. That makes it have the gold sheen. Well, FH thought I was crazy b/c he couldn't see it, and it caused quite the drama! Turns out, they sized it and didn't 'finish' it. That means dipping it in rhodium plating. That's what white gold is which we didn't know! It's yellow gold with a rhodium metal finish! It's totally the neglect of whomever sizes your ring to either not finish it, or to not tell you that you'll need it re-dipped! Go back and have them finish the job. ANd don't let them charge youfor it either!
