I'm going to order my dress in 3 weeks and I've been reading online about diamond white vs. white and everything I read is upsetting me.
Everyone claims how pasty and stark white looks, but I really want a white dress, and not diamond white.
Well, my questions is, should I just ignore what everything says and get the white I want? Is diamond white really all that great? Is white really all that bad? ughh

This may help:
Stark White The brightest, crispest white you can find. Looks great on brides with a darker complexion.
Silk, Diamond, or Natural White A shade off of stark white and may be hard to differentiate from stark white in photos. 'Eighty percent of the population looks best in a soft, diamond-white wedding dress, which isn't as chalky as a white-white,' explains dress designer Melissa Sweet. 'When in doubt, buy diamond white.'

I think you should try on your dress in both colors and see which one looks better with your skin tone.....No matter what studies have shown about which color works best you are the only one who could really tell after seeing yourself in both

Re: White vs. Diamond White
I only had a choice between white and ivory but I chose white. I love the way bright white dresses look for some reason. I don't have a dark complexion (which they say you should have for a white dress) but I don't care. I think white looks crisp, clean and fresh. Go with your gut. I second-guessed myself because I was listening to everyone but I'm happy with my decision. Good luck

Re: White vs. Diamond White
ok well from experience, I was very much like you in that I felt like i had to have WHITE...nothing else, and when i found my dress, i DIDNT EVEN KNOWWW that the sample i tried on was diamond white!!!
so when it came to ordering, i just went with the diamond white because i LOVED how it looked on me and it really is so close to white it didnt bother me at all to order diamond white instead of white!! :)

You should get what ever you want. My wedding gown is diamond white and you cannot tell it is not 'white'.

I think the white would look great on you! you have a dark enough complexion especially since your wedding will be in September you'll be all tan from the summer..i think it depends on the dress too..mine was so hideous in Ivory but I looove it in white :) go for what you want.

Re: White vs. Diamond White
I didn't even know there was a difference until I went dress shopping! Honestly, the difference between diamond white and white is very subtle and it depends on the material of the dress, designer, etc.
You really can't make a blanket statement like 'I only want white' until you try on dresses. I tried on dresses dresses that were called 'ivory' that were a very white ivory and then there were dresses that I tried on that were white that to me looked more ivory.

Re: White vs. Diamond White
Diamond white is still white. No one will look at you and say that you're not wearing white. When you look at yourself, you'll say that you're wearing white. It's just when you compare the two, diamond white is a little less stark. Think about all the whites the paint stores sell. They are all white, just different shades! You want to get what goes best on you. What's the point of a stark white dress when a softer white makes you look better. Apparently, most stores stock diamond white and ivory anyways, not too much of the white white because it oxidizes faster. So you've probably tried on a lot of diamond white w/o even knowing!

Re: White vs. Diamond White
I know what you mean....I knew I wanted WHITE, my dress had to be white! But then I found that there was a suttle difference between white and diamond white, I tried both on and liked diamond white better, its still white. Just figure out what looks better, and like others have said, you wont even be able to tell. My dress and veil was diamond white....or was it white...hmmmm JK
