Has anyone gone with the 'white' wedding dress vs. the ivory if you are fairskinned? I know they say it will make you look washed out in photos? Was wondering if anyone has gone against what seems to be the norm of 'ivory with a light skin tone' and just went with white instead?

I went with white instead of ivory. I'm more of a fair skinned olive tone though. I would say if you're truly fair skinned, like your skin has pink undertones, your're better off going with an ivory dress.

i heard that when you wear white and are fair toned it can make you look all washed out - i opted for ordering an ivory dress (im very fair skinned) and caught holy hell for it - i changed my dress to diamond white (which is a mix between ivory and white) - they had a big article on theknot.com as to what color skin tone goes best with what color wedding dress - ill try and find the site for you

To me the white looked a little dirtier, the ivory just looked more pure. But I bet it has everything to do with fabrics.

My dress only comes in white and ivory. I think it looks better in white and doesn't look washed out in person, but afraid of what it might look like in the photos. FH says- doesn't the photographer fix them for all that money? LOL

I wore diamond white....and I am pastey pale. Its not as stark and bright as white. Some designers dont make ivory but their ivory is called 'diamond white' each designer is different.

Re: white vs ivory dress help
I am dark-haired with olive, but fair skin. I only looked at ivory dresses, until the dress I loved was discontinued and the only one I could get in my size was white. It was very bright but much, much cleaner looking, so I definitely do not agree with the post that said white was dirtier.
I even went so far as to subject my MOH, mother, and even my FH to look at me in white and ivory dresses. In each, the ivory looked more neutral - and for me at least, I actually thought ivory washed me out. The white was much brighter and more dramatic - which may be the better look after all. It is, of course, your big day.
Go with your instinct...

I'm pretty pale and I went with pure white. It didn't wash me out at all.

Re: white vs ivory dress help
I brought my mom, sister, and finally my dad to see the dress!! (was a hair away from just showing FH! lol). Probably drove the salesladies nuts! Family all loved it in white. It has a ton of beading and lace. They thought the white made the silver on the dress 'pop' more. But, I just had in my head that ivory was the shade I was 'supposed to wear' (and also just because i love the ivory as well). Glad to see so many other brides are going with the white too! Thanks so much!!! Thought the dress shoppin was supposed to be fun- but actually quite stressful-

i am whiter than white! i am very fair, with a pink undertone..... i wore raw silk in what they called diamond white. it wasn't as stark as a true white, which made me look washed out. however it was not so ivory that it didn't look white, if that makes sense. picks are in my review. i was happy with the 'darker' white... it worked for my skin tone.
