Who actually has a priest marrying them
It seems like in the catholic church a priest doesnt marry you anymore... they have the deacons doing this... is anyone else having this problem?

I'm having a priest... are you having a full mass or just a ceremony? I think that makes a difference... we're having the mass

If you have a mass then a priest will marry you. If you only have a ceremony, then a deacon will marry you. We had a priest because we had a mass.

no a mass... it seems like they say there is a shortage of priest and the priest dont do weddings or funerals anymore... crazy right

A decon CAN'T do a full mass. We're having a deacon and only having a ceremony...

If you are having a mass you need a priest. Other wise, it will not count as a sacrament.

We are not having a mass (ceremony only) and the pastor said he will marry us unless we know of another priest to do it.
I don't think it has to do with whether you are having a mass or not - it probably just has to do with how your particular parish works.

Yea im having a priest and im not sure if we have a full mass or not but our parish doesnt have too many weddings so maybe thats why.

My wedding is on a Sunday and we aren't having a mass since mass is already given that day so we are having a deacon marry us.
