When you get engaged and announce it to the families..

When I got my ring last time I never even told Mom for mts bc I wasn't ready and I wasn't sure I even wanted to be... I am wacko...
Now I am waiting and waiting !! I know he even wrote me a poem bc he took out some books on how to write one in the library.... and not one gift under the tree is for me..
Anyway while I babble..

When I got engaged we went over to my parent's house (dad and stepmom) to tell them together. Then we waited until we went to MA to tell DH's family the good news. It was about 3 weeks. My Mom called his Mom to say that they were very happy about the engagement and then we planned a trip for my family to go to MA to meet his family. My mother on the other hand- I called her since I don't see her very often and told her the news via phone. She never called Scott's family or went up to visit. They met at our e-party.

FH asked both sets of my parents for their permission and then told his parents before he did it. So everyone knew already. I didn't get to tell anyone. My mom called his family to say hi and congrats.

We told both sets of parents in person (but seperately). Then we (Don & I) arranged for a luncheon so they can meet.

I had the same situation as hotelcalie, my FH asked my parents and his mom was with him when he got the ring. TThey knew what day is was going to ask me too. They were just waiting for the call that I actually got it. That day I called everyone, I was just so excited!

For my side We went over to my parents together and told them My sister, brother and SIL happened to be there Went to vist Aunts & Uncles (all local) and told them assorted cousins were present called others
For his side Called his Mom in Ohio together (I had never met her only spoken on the phone) He called all his brothers out of state Went to visit his one bro and SIL on LI
In short we announced our engagement to everyone

Traditionally your father is suppose to make the announcement that you're engaged. It is the bride's family that usually gives the engagement party. If that is not in the scheme of things for you then you and your FI can have both sets meet for dinner somewhere or in your house if you already live together. LOL
