How is it on your relationship? Does DH/FH commute also? By the time you get home are you totally beat?
Who has kids and commutes?
I gave that up 2 years ago, I often miss it, but I don't think it's pratical for DH and I-we'd never see eachother. I loved the train though.
I remember that by the time Friday night came I'd blink and Sunday would already be there. I hated Sundays.

I do the commute and I absolutely hate it .

My DH has a 20 minute commute and I am so jealous!

I hope to find a new job right after the baby is born so that I do not have to do this commute anymore.

I commute from Massapequa to Wall St. everyday and I hate it!! I am very tired by the time I get home, even though I read/sleep on the train. I go in early in an effort to get home early so I still have time to do things before falling asleep!!
I don't think it really effects my relationship with DH as he has crazy work hours that are all times of the day so it's not like he's waiting for me to come home or something.
I am trying to relocate...

We were both commuting at one point it was at times a nightmare. FH was working for a very demanding firm. He had to be in at 8am and stay some night until 9pm. We never saw each other. And parking the car was a hassel and another $75 a month.

I think if he had worked for normal people it would have been easier, we could go in together for 9am and then maybe leave together or one of us break for dinner if one had to stay late. It can be done. And when he could leave at a normal time it was fun going out to dinner/drinks after work but that was rare. Now with kids ... I don't know.

My husband and I both communte into the city. sometimes we take the train in the morning together and sometimes at night. I like to ride the train with him....especially at night. we get to talk about our day and relax while someone else is doing thre driving!!

we are both really tired when we get home from work but for us its worth it right now. I tried to work on LI and the salaries sucked and the people were so unprofessional that I couldnt deal.

time = $$$$

i try to keep commuting less than 30 mins and encourage FH to do the same. it's not always possible, but so far so good...

I take the LIRR from Bayside so the ride is not that long at all but honestly, Penn Station sux the life out of me every morning and every evening.

DH drives to work and gets home a little before me. I usually get home at a reasonable time 6.00-6.30 so we spend time together in the evenings although he goes to bed early since he gets up really early.

As a result, I hate going into the city on the weekends and he prefers not to drive out to long island.

FH and I both communte into the city as well. It works out GREAT for us!!
We do not live together yet... but we live on the same train line and we always meet up.
Most of the time we take the train in the morning together and always at night-- we'll wait for one another if they are not staying too late.
I'll get off at his stop at night, eat dinner with him, then he'll drive me back to my station to pick up my car and I go home. That's been our life for the past 4 years.

**BUT I will say, that if I didn't work in the city, or if we lived on a different train line, our relationship WOULD NOT BE THE SAME.
We are able to see each other EVERYDAY and spend so much time together this way- having dinner, talking on the train... If it was any other way we'd see each other like 2X a week and on the weekends.

Both DH and I do. I don't mind the commute too much - I am getting use to it - been doing this since June. I don't think LIRR is as bad as I hear people say.

The only thing it effects is that we eat dinner late (but we did that living in the city as well - so not a change for us) and don't have the time for home things like cleaning and appointments or shopping that I use to do before. I have to do all that on the weekends.

I do worry if we do eventually have children - then it may be hard. What will I do about day care? I can't have children eating dinner at 9pm. But we will figure it out when the time comes.

FH just started commuting to the city this past January. It really didn't change much for us because I work long hours on LI anyway. Now I drop him off at the station in the morning, go to work, leave work and go to the station to pick him up. Sometimes if I get out early enough, I have time to go home and start dinner before I have to pick him up from the train. It has not impacted us at all.

I commuted to Wall Street everyday from Mastic for four years before moving to Bay Ridge. It drained the life out of me. At the time, DH and I weren't together but I would think it could take a toll on a relationship because there is less time to spend together during the week. However, DH works for one of the Big 4 accounting firm and his hours are crazy anyway. Right now we are living in Ireland and once we come home we will be looking into buying a house on LI so that means commuting again for both of us, which I am not looking forward too. However, I much rather ride the train then drive to work. Traffic makes me nuts!

I commute from Brentwood to Penn Station. FH used to work in the city and we took the train together. Now he works 20 minutes away. I am jealous of his commute and he is jealous that I work in the city.

He works long hours, though, so we are both beat
