Who did you have

read the readings at the ceremony (church)? I'm clueless! How many readings are there? Also, who is usually asked to do a reading and the carrying of the gifts? Thanks!

If it is a Catholic Church there are usually:
a new testament reading, a an old testament reading, and The Gospel, and the Prayer of the Faithful.
I asked my cousins to bring up the gifts and do the readings. I also picked 2 of our friends to do a reading.

We picked people that were special to us...

So, all together, there are three 'readings' (three people) to pick? I was thinking of my sister in law, since I'm not having a wedding party. Also, do you ask parents, or is that not appropriate?

You can have anyone you want!
We had 3 people do the readings! I think that it is an honor to be asked. I read at my aunt's wedding!
I don't see why you couldn't ask your parents.

You can ask whoever you like.

DH and I used 2 friends who we would have liked to have had in our bridal party but did not. Then used one of my male cousins for the third.

It would be nice to ask you parents but they may be emotional or not need the additional stress of the day - but you know your parents best.

If you are having a full mass - you may need people to bring the gifts. My brother asked my mom and his MIL to do this.

you can ask family or friends to do it, whoever you like..
we happen to be using all family(aunts, grandparents)...
also if your having the full mass- perhaps you have a family member who does the eucharistic minister and can include them for that

We had one of our friends read the Old Testament reading, My Brother-In-Law read the New Testament reading and my Aunt read The Prayer of the Faithful. We had our parents bring up the Gifts.
