Who did you invite?

Who did you invite?

Did you invite mostly family? Did you throw in some people, maybe neighbors?

I am just going through my guest list in my head, and I am thinking 'all these people should come b/c they are all mostly close friends and family'. I just can't imagine even 10 people saying no. He has a large family and that is mostly what the guest list is made up of.

Am i being unrealistic? Who did you include on your GL?

I don't have much family on my side..so it's a mix of friends and co-workers.

On FH side is family, friends, co-workers!!

Depends what you have!

family, friends and a few co-workers its hard to invite alot of outsiders when you come from a big family

Re: Who did you invite?

Other than FH's 2 bosses and 2 family neighbors, it's ~2/3 family and 1/3 friends

Re: Who did you invite?

Mostly family, friends, and my mom's friends.
We didn't invite any co-workers.
I work in a school, and am still unsure. I'd love to invite my principal, but then I'd be opening up a can of worms - -if I invite her, then I have to invite the 2 AP's, then the 4 people in my department, and one woman who I love.
That turns into 18 more people!
FH just transferred to a new school, so he isn't inviting anyone from work, but is inviting a few people he is in touch with from his old school -- he worked there 8 years and considers some of them to be close friends.
We sent out invites just over a week ago and have 32 yes's and 1 no(but the 1 no is a single guy not bringing a date).
I may just end up inviting the one woman I love from work -- I don't even work with her, but she was wonderful to my family when my dad passed.
HOpe that helped! I think we all get confused as to who to invite.
Sorry that was so long!

Re: Who did you invite?

My list is about 115 and mostly family and his is about 80 and its mostly friends. I kept thinking I cant see how these people wouldn't come but you will be surprised people you thought would never miss your day will. I was so upset about three weeks ago b/c I found out some of my friends cant make it. After a while I got over it and realized its my day and it will be nice even if they are there or not. He only invited family and friends. I did also but some neighbors b/c my mom said I had to. Anyone she said 'Had to be invited' I told her ok but you pay. I dont talk to my neighbors and really care less if they are there but my mom said I had to. I would Invite the people you want to celebrate in your special day!

Re: Who did you invite?

I don't have much family but I did invite all the family that I wanted to be there- DH has such a large family that the majority of the guest list was his fathers side of the family.

To be honest when we started to include friends and family we went by one guideline/theme which was those that are important and have been there for DH and I through the years. If they didn't stick by as true friends then we left them off the guest list.

As for co-workers mine didn't deserve (outside of two people which I invited and told them to keep it hush hush) to be there and DH's boss had 'a confict of dates' so that's how it was there.

We ended up with a guest list of 150 inviations (300 people roughly-like I said DH has a large family on his fathers side) and most of our 'No's' were from his fathers side of the family- the day of we had 125 at the wedding.

Re: Who did you invite?

I don't have many family members who live in the United States and will be able to make it to the wedding. My closest relatives are coming. Most of the guest list consisst of
FH family (big family and they are close),
FH father's co-workers (he has worked with them for 30 years),
FH parents closest friends,
FH friends and ex-coworkers (and even some clients), and .............

still debating....my co-workers. I have worked for the same organization for six years.

Family and friends. We didn't invite any neighbors. I also invited a few people from my office. Hope this helps.

Re: Who did you invite?

We have such a large guest list, it's crazy!!! Our list contains family (which is big), friends (tons of them), co-workers and our parents' friends. We're even inviting some old co-workers that we became friendly with and kept in touch with over the years. As for my parents' friends, my parents said we have to invite their friends because they get invited to their kid's wedding, and they have to reciprocate. I feel funny inviting some of their friends who I really don't know that well, considering things are so expensive, but my parents are helping out so I figure I have to accept it.

Re: Who did you invite?

How many of your family are from OOT? We thought the same thing of the 157 that we invited, and in the end, we only had 90. Most of the drops were family that we swore beforehand would show up.

What I would suggest with the family, is that as soon as you think the invitations have been received, if you have OOT family, call them and really feel them out. There are some that will say 'oh yes, we're coming' and then have to drop for one reason or another. One of my cousins did this, but she couldn't come out b/c her husband lost his job 4 weeks before our response date and she had already sent in her response saying yes. You just never know. We also had a cousin of DH's tell us he was coming then didn't show up, and never sent anything...never called us to say he couldn't make it last minute, though he claimed he called two of our numbers (um, no, never got a syllable from him), and concocted a story about having to go to the ER...never happened.

Make sure too, you leave yourself plenty of time b/w the due date for the responses and when you have to give your hall a headcount. Also check with your hall if you have flexibility on changes to the count and how far out. We were able to do some changes just 3 days prior. I know that is highly unusual, but with a December wedding date (looks like you are doing our weekend this year), you have a bit more leeway with the halls.

But if you have some friends that are right on the cusp of being a or b list, have invites ready for them to send out as soon as you get a 'no' back. We waited too long and missed out on sending invites out to those sorts of friends of ours and we really regret it.

Good luck and fm if you need anything!

Re: Who did you invite?

Family (OOT will probably not come).
Our best friends (one couple is from OOT)

And I invited some people I work closely with, because since egagement they have been so supportive of everything I do, and understand if I'm going nuts and need time off.

My 2 boses are in 40's with kids, they will definitly come. In fact when I got engaged, one of them said 'oh wow, I'm so proud of you, I would love to come to your wedding'

The rest of office is college age and I doubt very interested in weddings. I'm inviting just cause my bosses keep talking about my wedding at our meetings !

Our parents invited their neighbors colleages and miscelaneous, but I really really hope their 2 hour drive to my wedding is going to make them not want to come! Its just a matter of respect, I guess.

Sometimes I'm so glad I'm having wedding so far away!

Re: Who did you invite?

we invited mostly family, friends, and a few co-workers. You'd be surprised who ends up saying no. Usually it's 20% I've heard, but mine was more like 40% and we didn't meet our minimum.

Re: Who did you invite?

We both have small families and we invited a lot of friends and friends/coworkers. I think anything can happen....one of my friends that I was sure was going to be there, just told me she won't be be able to make it. I was really upset but I got over it because I realized that not everyone thinks that our weddings are as important as we do LOL!! In the event that we don;t meet our mininum we are at least able to include our vendors in the number.

Did you send save-the-dates? I wonder if they help??!!

We both have large families so they will take up most of the invites. Also, family friends, friends, coworkers, and parents' friends.
