Who did/is getting married during US Open weekend?
We just pushed our wedding date back a week and now I think it will be right during US Open weekend. We're getting married out east and I'm afraid this is going to be a huge problem. Any advice or information on problems you ran/are running into? Thanks!

OK here it goes.... if you have any OOT guests i suggest not doing this because the US open books hotels 2 years in advance!!! i have a friend that looked over a year in advance for this year hotels and she has a ton of OOT guests... she is screwed people are giving up their houses for these people to stay
she could not get hotels from Montauk all the way to suffolk/nassau border
when i went to look at East Wind the lady warned me about this because she said the bride for this year called up and she was hysterical because they didnt even have the bridal sweet open for her to stay in the night of her wedding!!!!

I thought the US Open was over Labor Day weekend - at least, I've had a bunch of guests ask me whether they will have time to attend while they're in NY, but it's very possible that my guests don't know what they're talking about!

I know its definately no Labor Day weekend. Its sometime in June I think.

??? I am pretty sur ethe US open is ALWAYS in JUNE..... There is usually the horse race Labor Day weekend...(i forgot what it was called-some kind of Derby)my friend works for the company that caters it every year...l many famous people
i just looked it up and the 2005 US Open is in Pinehurst, North Caroline.... June 13-19 so you don't need to worry

So, are you getting married this year? Cause your profile says next year. If that's the case, don't think you have to worry cause the US Open is in Pinehurst NC next year. This year it's in Shinnicock starting the 14th I think and since you're more on the North Fork, I don't think it'll be AS bad, but it would be a little tough for people I think. And maybe it's the Tennis one that's in Sept? Cause the golf one I thought is usually in June.

There seems to be some confusion.
The TENNIS US Open is in August- September, in Queens.
The GOLF US Open is in June in Long Island.

Clarification -the US Open Golf is in June and the US Open tennis is the end of August beginning of septmeber in Queens. The golf moves around so make sure you know where the location is because it could or could not be a problem

actually i justlooked it up the US Open for golf in 2005 is in Pinehurst N.C -so no worries

Phew! Thank goodness! Thanks everyone! I was afraid it was in the same place every year b/c it seems like FI goes every year, but it IS in NC next year. Yippee! I was really starting to ring my hands for a minute there.

If you do have OOT guests moving the wedding up a week will be a definite problem. My wedding is June 12th, and the Open starts either the 13th and the 14th. We booked our hotels last spring and we JUST made it (and we're at the Melville Marriott on the Nassau/Suffolk border) and the best rate we could get was $149 a nite. The US Open is in Shinnecock, and it's crazy how many people are coming out for it, and how far from the Open people are willing to stay - good luck!

When it was at Bethpage.... it was such a headache... traffic all day, road closings, they used SUNY Farmingdale as extra parking and closed Melville and Round Swamp Roads all together. I know people who lived close to the course and they were offered $30k to rent out their house. What a mess.

This years US Open is 6/14-6/20. Not only is it impossible to find hotels... but traffic is a nightmare.
The 2005 US Open is 6/13-6/19 In North Carolina so 05 brides should be in the clear!

I am getting married on 6/20 and had the hardest time blocking hotel rooms near me (in SUffolk Cty) so we blocked in Westbury near the hall. Crazy!!

I completely understand your worries! We booke our wedding without realizing that the Tenis Open would be going on. My family members are tennis NUTS! Then my firned who wrks there for catering offered t arrange the rehersal at their restaurant there BUT b/c of the event it would literally quadruple the price!
