Who does your taxes???

I usually do my own but I am always afraid that I missed something.

So I am on the look out for an Accountant.

Anyone want to do my taxes?

Have any non CPAs ever done them themselves? I always did ours myself but this year we have the house and will itemize so I'd like a professional to do them. Can someone tell me roughly how much an accountant would charge for a basic itemized return, nothing fancy? Thanks.

In 1998 I got a letter. Seems in 1996 taxes had a glitch. I fought long and hard with IRS to prove that a business trip to Vegas was NOT a prize or gift given by that company.

It got nasty. I finally ended up owing only a few hundred dollars back but still didn’t want to pay. My father paid it for me so I wouldn’t go to jail. It was still better than the few thousands they had me pegged at first.

Having the IRS threaten to garnish your wages is NOT fun!

Since then. I would go to HR Block. I buy that stupid guarantee. I make them responsible. I even had to use that guarantee once for taxes owed on a liquidated 401 that they failed to process even though I had given them the paperwork for it (that’s the catch of course) so they paid the taxes for me.

This year, we are filing as a married couple. Jim wants us to give over our stuff to this mother who has an accountant in Chinatown. Since I keep such a careful eye on our finances, I see no problem with that this year.

Weird thing is, I still do my own taxes. I go through all the steps and fill out the form. I just use it as a reference to see if the Tax office comes up with the same number. Sort of my own personal ‘double check’. I use the 1040 EZ.

If you have simple taxes...doing on your own is easy...I did this until I met DH...then we gave them to his uncle who is a certified tax filer (?)


but this year - we moved out of state...so I may talk to an accountant...

i think next year we'll need our own.. if we are going to claim the interest on mortgage payments...

I'm so horrible at math and I just get too confused. I normally have a friend of my dad's who's certified to do taxes but he's not a CPA per se to do my taxes, but this year we're going to use someone else closer to where we live.

This year FH has to file but he's going to have tons of problems. I'm a bit nervous.

Ours have been pretty easy, since I have worked in Florida or Texas and they don't have State Texas. Dh is a PA resident but since he doesn't live in PA he gets all of his state back. So our state taxes are simple!

We are looking into finding a CPA for our taxes. Dh's has one employer. I have had three plus I am an independant contractor for MaryKay and one that moved mid year (so, I need to figure out what to do with my Florida sales tax as well as my Texas...argh)

Does anyone here work as a contractor and do their own, what software do you use or who do you use..

My dad. He was an accountant for many years. He does FH's now, too.
