I don't beleive they are all fables persay...but I do beleive that all stories have some grain of truth and may have been exagerated over time.

Sure thing! My main problem is the 'immaculate conseption'! W T F??? I am sorry, but there is no way! She sure did the nasty! And from what I gathered after watching a program on Discovery Chanel, with some drunken Roman Solder too! Now, is that a way to behave???

LOL
How funny. I am constantly attacked for saying that half the bible is just stories to make us be good and have no real base in facts. I’ve gone so far as to say the bible we read today is basically full of ‘crap’ and lies created by priests in the past who thought they were lead by the holy spirit to choose, edit and print only those stories they felt were ‘necessary’ to their interpretation of God’s word.

So yes, I think the bible has it’s share of fables. I’ll also agree it has some facts. Mainly I think the bible is a good idea gone wrong.

I think some of them are.

When my great grandmother passed away at her mass the priest said she was on a journey. She was at the docks, going on a cruise. She is not really gone, but on a cruise and we'll see her again.

then the following year, different priest gave us the same story for my grandfather. He was on a cruise.

2001 another mass and that guy was on a cruise.

He was quoting things from the bible and all I kept thinking was, this guy is nuts.

So yea i think some of the stuff is a fable.

I think the basis of the story is based on fact but since it wasn't written for so many years I think the stories just got exaggerated over time.

IMO, some of it has to be. It's like a game of telephone. I mean, does anyone know anyone that lived during that time who isn't Shirley Maclean?

I'm with you Xelindrya - I've said just about the same exact things you've said.

I don't think fables are bad...I think there are good lessons to be learned from the bible. But on a whole, it ain't my cup o' tea.

I do beleive that there are some facts to it, but like you girls said with a little fluff. You need to keep order some how

EXACTLY what I've said before - it's like a game of telephone! Too funny.

Was the bible actually written while 'it happened' or was it written after the fact? I've always beleived it to be the latter - esp the New Testament...

Def, there was a Jesus from Nazaret. The basis of the bible is just different people's true life stories which were later blown out of proportion and added on and on with variouse interpretations. All for the reason of keeping the society in check, which really is the main purpose of religion.

I believe most of the stories in the bible are parables (sp?) told to teach us a lesson.

no you wont go to double hockey sticks.

We were given the ability to question for a reason.

I am personaly a total pick and choose Roman Catholic. I will not let ridiculous policys I dont belive in, hateful people, and bad clergy ROB me of my faith. It comforts me and I wont let that go.

Although I have belived for a long time that organized religion was an age-old governing system, I have discovered that most of bible has real buck the establishment anti-government overtones at times. So now I am at who knows point ????
