Re: Who else gets slack?

Hi T!! I got some from one of my hubby's sister's. I only had my daughter and niece there. They were my FG's and they were the only children I would allow. I made a decision and stood my ground on it. I feel for you T!!!!

People have questioned me.

I pretty much tell people, this is what I want.

People will always criticize , what a shame!!!

Re: Who else gets slack?

ME!! Who do people think they are?? 'Family friends' of my FH got offended and angry when their daughter was not allowed to bring her children to the my FH's brothers wedding. SO at their wedding this family friend said to me 'So there will be no misunderstanding. . .my daughter will be bringing her children to your engagemnet party' Can you believe the balls on this man?????
I was mortified!!! I didn't know what to say!! I lost it on my FH and my FMIL and said I would allow it for the e-party only to 'make peace' after that I want no children at anything!!!
Well at the engagement party they were running around , yelling and running around during our speech. This is why I didn't want children. .

.anyway I had a 30th B-day party for my FH. . in the invites I inserted a little note saying 'no children' . . .so there won't be any misunderstandings . . . . well they were even more offended. . they told my FMIL 'who does Linda think she is . . .We are not children. .we know that a party held in a place at 8pm is no place for children . . .we don't need to be told what to do' My FMIL stood up for me and said 'Well their engagement party was at 8pm in a hall and you still brought children and they ran around so she doesn't want that, he doesn't want and I don't want that.' So their 3 daughters and another couple's 2 daughters never showed up (because of this) . .. They (the older parents) came with the other couple half way through the party with chips on their should. . .they took my parents' seats at the head table they were rude to my mom. . .made fun of his 2 aunts. . .tried to take every favor on the table and the surrounding tables!! (my mom stopped them and told them 1 per couple) . . .and then left early!!!!! Let me remind you that these peple are over 50!!! So tell me . . .why do we have to pay close to $1400 for people who don't respect me or our families????

My response cards are going to have a big fat ADULT RECEPTION on it!! and I don't care who I offend. . .maybe we can save $1400

Sorry this was sooo long this topic aggravates me to no end!!

Re: Who else gets slack?

Linda, I feel your pain. I don't understand why it's a problem or why people insist on what they want. More than 50 of my guests are going to be family members that I'm not fond of...more than half of them have children younger than 8 and I don't want kids at my wedding. Since I was told it is not very nice to put ADULT RECEPTION on my invites...and that some people will get insulted, I decided not to write it in the invites. I've already told my mother to start calling all these relatives to tell them about the wedding and politely tell them to find babysitters taht night if they're planning to attend, otherwise, send those regrets sooner so I can invite other friends!

Re: Who else gets slack?

My fiance and I just discussed the issue of kids last night. I KNOW I will get slack for writing ADULT reception on my invit. but this is our wedding and we want no kids running wild on the dance floor. We will probably add ADULT RECEPTION on the left corner of the reception card. We will allow bridal party children. Any other older children who we will invite and we know will sit and behave, we will address invit to say Mr & Mrs & family.

Re: Who else gets slack?

HUGE blowout with my cousin over me not asking her girls to be FGs and for 'not including' them on such a 'family occasion.' Blowout still huge over it.

Re: Who else gets slack?

I just received an invite to a friend's wedding in Texas. On the bottom of the invitation it says 'N.B.; this is an adult event and you should make alternate arrangements for children.'

I thought it sounded fine and it definitely doesn't leave room for people to say they didn't understand what you meant. Their reception is in the evening. Just thought I'd share. Good luck girls!

(I plan on just having the 2 children in my bridal party at the reception, no other children.)

Re: Who else gets slack?

Me too! Uh! What is the matter with people?! My FSIL (and supposed to be BM) said she won't be able to come because she won't have a babysitter. Hellooooo, it was over a year away! Than she started with the 'that's his niece, she should be there...blah blah blah'. BTW, this kid is 2yo!
Some people have no sense. There are some places where children do not belong. And you'd think the parents would look forward to an adults night out! I think they take it personally.

Whew! Thanks for letting me vent!

Re: Who else gets slack?

i layed down the 'no kids' law from the day we got engaged. so far, so good!!!

just a side story - FI was BM in a wedding last year. there was a married couple in the BP. they actually left before the first course was even served since they didn't have a sitter for their son. HELLO!!!! you knew about this wedding how far in advance????? couldn't find a sitter!!! B&G were not pleased - especially since two seats at the head table were EMPTY the entire night!! AND they paid for those 2 untouched dinners!!!! some people have no common sense!!!

Re: Who else gets slack?

I haven't gotten any slack yet, but if I do I will put whoever is dishing it right in their place. I do not feel weddings are for children and that is that!
