and who is your travel agent? We went to see an agent and she gave some pretty good rates. Although she said she had planned honeymoons to Italy, she didn't seem to have much expertise to offer us, just a bunch of hotel brochures, which is great, but if you have an agent that really knows Italy I'd love to speak with him/her.
I was thinking of stopping by Liberty Travel in Huntington. Has anyone tried them?

Re: Who else is going to Italy for your honeymoon?
Me! And we've already booked pretty much the whole trip. Starting in Positano (yay!), then Rome, Florence, and Tuscany wine country. Using Joyce Ackerman in Rye, NY. Let me know if you want her #.

HI Lesley-
We are going to Ravello, Capri and Tuscany. To be honest, I was using American Express Travel but they weren't very helpful. In the end, I did a ton of research on fodors.com and had recommendations from friends on hotels and wound up booking the whole thing myself. It was really easy b/c all the hotels you can book direct via email and for my flight I actually used miles to upgrade to 1st class. Let me know if you need any help with good hotels in the area - I've really done my share of legwork!!

What hotels do you ladies reccomend for Rome, Florence and Capri?
We're planning on traveling by rail -- spending 3 nights in Venice, 3 nights in Florence, 3 nights in Rome and then taking it easy for 3 nights in Capri! I'm so excited... just want to make sure I make reservations at good hotels! I've read some pretty bad stuff, even about 4 star hotels so I'm trying to do as much research as possible to make sure we find nice places.

I can recommend a few Capri hotels. We are staying at Casa Morgano b/c they did not have a minimum stay required and its supposed to be beautiful. But my first choice would have been La Scalinatella. Check out www.caprionline.com They have tons of info on hotels, getting there etc.

I am going to Rome, Positano, Venice, and Florence this June. I wouldn't recommend my travel agent. She was somewhat helpful, but I did most of the research myself, also using Fodors. I am staying at Le Sirenuse in Positano, Berchielli in Florence, hotel Savoia in Venice and Piranesi in Rome. They are all 4 and 5star hotels.

Re: Who else is going to Italy for your honeymoon?
LesleyW, I noticed your wedding is in AUgust...i went to the Amalfi Coast last august and it was PACKED. THere are a few weeks in august that everyone in itay takes a vacation and they all go to the amalfi coast... Book your hotel in capri early...if you wait too long you may have a problem getting one. ALso, just to warn you...the beaches there that time of year will be really crowded and the hotles will definitely be more expensive. Also, inROme, alot of the stores will be closed. When i went Fendi and Gucci were both closed. There is a holiday in early or mid-August...i can't remember what date or what it is called but, if you are going during that time you should find out. Sorry for the negative input...i just wished someone would have told me before i went...everything was still BEAUTIFUL but a little more crowded than i would have liked

Re: Who else is going to Italy for your honeymoon?
Thanks for the input, Annie. We're actually planning on taking our honeymoon in September for the very reasons you stated!
For you ladies who used a travel agent but did all of your own research, did you book your hotel with an agent or did you book it yourself via the internet? If you booked it through an agent, did she get you a better rate than the published rate?
I'm reading Karen Brown's guide to 'Charming Inns & Hotels in Italy' did anyone else look at this one?

Re: Who else is going to Italy for your honeymoon?
I used Karen Brown's book for our Tuscany hotels...I have loved her recommendations in the past (used it for Lake Como in Italy).
Also, just one thing about Capri since we are going in September as well. The Quissisana & La Scalinatella all had five night minimums since it is still considered high season so this definitely played a factor as to where we're staying. And also, when I did attempt to use American Express travel, they got me the same rates as when I emailed the hotels myself.

If you have time...there is another island you should check out as well...Ischia---the beaches there are GORGEOUS!!! Also...you must go to Ravello (on the almalfi coast) the restaurants there have the most beautifiul views in the world...They are set very high in the cliffs of the amalfi coast!
