Le Souffle is a small, cute restaurant with a 3-course prix fixe menu - all souffles, of course. It is amazing!!! Very reasonably priced, too. They also have a regular menu if you don't want souffles...but that would just be weird!

I think it is in the First Arondissement - in the general area of the Louvre. I don't remember exactly.

Cafe Du Marche is a great place to have lunch. I love their warm goat cheese salad. It is on Rue Cler in the 7th, close to the Eiffel Tower (about a 10 minute walk). It is in Rick Steve's guide book. The Rue Cler is great, it is a pedestrian street with cafes and stores. There is also a stand which sells street food which is yummy as well.

We went to Paris for part of our honeymoon. But I can't remember any of the restaurants we ate at. Sorry. We basically just ate at cafes and cancelled all of the fancy restaurants we were going to eat at. We were just too tired from the wedding and jet lag to get all dressed up for a thousand dollar meal. But if you plan on going to one, you should go to the restaurant in the Four Seasons. It is supposed to be the best (think it is called Cinq V). You have to make reservations ahead of the time for all of the fancy restaurants. We made them at least a month before we left.

Part of our honeymoon was in France as well, we did exactly what am470 did...just walked around, found some interesting cafes!

You should go for lunch as Jules Verne in the Eiffel Tower (make reservations a few weeks at least in advance)

I spent Valentine's Day in Paris in 2002 and we did the same wandering to cafe or grab food in the supermarche type of thing.

We didn't even go out of Valentine's Day. We went to the supermarche down the street from the hotel, bought a baguette, a jar of nutella and some French coke and had our own dinner in the room

Have fun in Paris. I wish I could go back now!

Re: Who has been to Paris, France?

I've been to Paris about 5 or 6 times, and I lived there for almost a year.

I love Paris - I hope you have a fabulous time!
My favorite restaurant (well, there are many, but one of them) is called A La Petite Chaise. It's on the Rive Gauche (left bank) in the Latin Quarter, on Rue de Grenelle. It's really beautiful - very quaint and romantic and the food is excellent and quite reasonable. You might want to make a reservation ask the hotel to have you find the number.

There are the famous restaurants that everyone loves to go to - Fouquets most notably, and as someone mentioned the restaurant in the Four Seasons (which is actually called Le Cinq) is excellent - I've been there a couple of times. These places do require reservations in advance.

Have a wonderful time and say 'salut' to Paris for me!!

ETA: You must have a Nutella crepe from a vendor off the street before you leave - they are the best! Also - Cafe de Fleur is a very famous cafe in the latin quarter on Le Boulevard St Germain - Hemingway was a regular there in his day and it's a landmark and worth a visit! Have a Kir Royale and enjoy!!

I also went a few years ago and I did the same thing as Kathy & Am470 --- we just stopped and ate at whatever interesting cafes & restaurants caught our eye at the time... I highly recommend it.

Re: Who has been to Paris, France?

Laurent is a really super nice place near the Arc de Triomphe - it's Michelen-rated. Dinner there was a wedding gift from two of my French students. I highly recommend it.

Otherwise we did what the other ladies did, walked around and went into interesting places.

We ate A LOT of crepes, and A LOT of sandwiches on baguettes. Yummy!!!!

Be prepared for $$$ shock - we were taking $200 out of the ATM almost every day and we really did not do anything extravagant. ETA: For some reason soda is really expensive, like 3-4 dollars a glass.

Two special dining experiences other than Laurent:

We had a beer - if you can call that a dining experience at a newstand/OTB type place. It was bizarre! We went in there to buy newspapers, and we saw that it was also a little cafe/bar. It was at night, so we ordered a beer (that's what the locals were drinking so we figure what the heck) and we were talking and then we realized that everyone was watching a horse race on a little tv and placing bets. Well, we got talking to them and one was an ex-pat American, the other a drunk Frenchman who kept asking us to buy him a drink (we stopped after the second). They were very amusing and we had a great time hanging out with them, talking politics and marvelling at all the history-themed magazines (I found the French to be totally into history, even kids).

The second was an Italian restaurant right across from the old Ecole Polytechnique building. The food was pretty good, but the wine was FANTASTIC! It was by Ciro, a Calabrian vintner. Apparently it's not even expensive, and very popular in France. We loved it.

The newstand and Italian restaurant were on the Left Bank, near the Latin Quarter.

HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!! I am so jealous; I can't wait to go back!!!

Re: Who has been to Paris, France?

I lived in Paris in college and have been back twice since... there are SO many restaurants, and cafés, and brasseries, you almost can't go wrong!

Sit in an outdoor café on the Champs-Elysees, take a Bateaux Mouches boat tour of the Seine (some have dinner), try a Crèperie, they have dinner and dessert crèpes (so GOOD) and alcolohic cider (yummy).

If it's cold the hot chocolate at Les Deux Magots (a very famous café in the Latin Quarter) is fabulous.

For sightseeing, if you go see Notre Dame, make sure you also go to La Sainte Chappelle, it's a chapel inside a Palace on the other side of the Ile de la Cité (Notre Dame is on an island in the middle of the seine at the heart of Paris). You have to pay a few dollars but it's ABSOLUTELY breathtaking stained glass windows in the upper chapel (must go upstairs)

I second the Nutella Crepes, though apricot is my favorite! :)

If you have any questions about what to see, feel free to FM me!

There is a great crepe stand on the Rue Cler as well. It is in front of a shop. Very good....
as you can see I am a fan of the Rue Cler. There is also web page www.chowhound.com and there is a ton of Paris recommendations. You really can't go wrong if you wander into a packed cafe. DH and I love Paris, since living in Ireland we have been there 3x. I would go every year if I could.
