Who here has been to London/Paris?

Who here has been to London/Paris?

and can give me a list of MUST SEES while we are there. I'm bored out of my mind right now and I am trying to figure out some plan of attack when FH and I are in London next summer before his cousin's wedding in Ireland. Our tentative plan is that we are going to spend a few days in London (maybe like 3 or 4) then possibly spend a day or 2 in Paris, and then fly over for the wedding in Ireland. Once in Ireland, we'll have 'tour guides' with us so I'm not too concerned with looking for stuff to do there.

FH does have family in London so we will probably spend a day or two with them but I don't want to burden them with showing us everything.

So if you've been to either place, hit me with things to do/see while I am there!! Also, any suggestions for cheap places to stay.

Re: Who here has been to London/Paris?

I went to London in September...it was AMAZING. I don't have any suggestions on where to stay, because my best friend lives there and I stayed at her flat. However, I can tell you some of the cool things we did that I don't think you should miss. Also, I'm not sure how into the whole Henry VIII story, but I LOVE that stuff so I did a lot pertaining to that.

1) We did a tour of the state rooms of Buckingham Palace. Apparently they are only open certain months of the year, but if they are open DO IT. Sooo amazing to see the like room where Price Harry was christened, etc.
2) Hampton Court. It's not in London, but only a short train ride away. Soo cool. Very pretty gardens, etc. and you can walk through the estate and see the fancy rooms. They also have the maze of bushes like in the shining. This is apparently where Henry VIII stayed so they have a lot going on (like live performances) acting it out.
3) The Tower of London. This is where Anne Boleyn was executed. Lots of history here during Henry VIII reign and where he kept people imprisoned. SUPER cool.

Those are the things I can think of off the top of my head!!! I did the things like the eye and stuff (which was kind of a waste of money, but is one of those typical London things that you should probably do). I'll keep thinking on it for you, too!!

You'll have a blast!

London:
Tower of London
Buckingham Palace (go for the tour if its open for the season)
Westminster Abby
St. Paul’s Cathedral (I saw the Queen here!)
Skip Kensington Palace unless you have a thing for Queen Victoria. Princess Diana lived here but they only have her dresses.

Paris:
You MUST take the train to Versailles. Plan to get there very early and spend the whole day. It’s worth it!
The Louvre
The Opera House
Notre Dame Cathedral
Muse D’Orsey (lots of sculptures, more modern than the Louvre)
Go to the top of the Eifel tower at night. Paris sparkles!
Eat crepes. Often! Try nutella or Grand Mariner
There is SO much. I’ve been to Paris a few times, FM if you want more info

Also go on at least one ghost tour in london. The jack the ripper tour was awesome. Take the double decker tour bus. You can get off and on all over the city.

Paris make sure you eat french macarons. Theyre the most amazing cookies ever. La duree is gorgeous but pricey and is worth going to buy them there.

Airfare to Europe usually spikes over the summer. Book early! It's too early now to book for July 2011 but in probably 2 months, you can start tracking the prices on a site like yapta.com.

If you decide to spend any time in Cambridge (especially if you're flying to Ireland from Stansted airport), let me know. I'll be here!

thanks! yeah trust me I have been looking every few weeks to see when I can start booking flights. I figure by October they should be available and I want to start looking to book flights.

We just have to figure out our plan on attack first.
