Re: who is an expert in Excel (MW) '??

Ok I work for a plumbing company - we keep a weekly spreadhseet of all the employess (about 20) and where they go daily - what jobs - so we put the address in -----
Now I need to create some kind of formula that will spit back at me all the locations ---- but not to repeat them... (am i making sense?)
I'm not sure if anyone will understand me, as I'm not the greatest person to explain anything.
Thanks

I would think a pivot table would work.

yea i have 23 employees X 6 days so thats 138 different addresses ---- and they repeat bc lets say one guy is at the same location 3 times during the week - so i need it to appear on a list once - get it?????

I would try a pivot table

Data
Pivot table and Pivot chart

then just follow the directions, basically just select the area of data, so all the rows you need and then hit finish.

Make sure all your columns have headings....
A little box should pop up listing all your column headers and then just drag and drop the address one down the left hand side.

Make sure you have the duplicated addresses all typed the same way. For instance 123 Oak St, Anytown, NY ------ don't write it as 123 Oak Street, Anytown, NY...

If you need help walking through it, let me know. The data part is tricky, you need to fill that in. If you have prices to go along with jobs - that's the column I would put as data.

How I would set it up is location as the row, and cost as the data field.

FM me if you need more help...

actually it also sounds like advanced filter would work. it's easier than the pivot table. if you have all the addresses in one column you can do data/filter/advanced filter. make sure you are at the heading of your column e.g., 'addresses' and do filter the list to another location (select it) and check off the 'unique records only' box so you won't get repeats.

advanced filter is awesome!

Definately a Pivot table.
