I am leaning towards not doing one, but am undecided.

Re: Who is doing a receiving line?
Honestly, it sounds like a pain thing to do. I'm not planning to do it....just going to visit each table during dinner....

Re: Who is doing a receiving line?
I'm sure we're doing it b/c it's such a small church it won't take long and we have a lot of time in between the cermony and reception.

We did it.. but it was because the way we saw it, all these people came out to see us for our wedding in NYC and we owe them at least that much.. and not only that but with all the business at the reception, we may not have enough time to talk or thank them then.

O now I understand what a receiving line is. It's kind of like what a priest does at the end of mass. Its sounds cute. Our wedding is small enough that we could go around to each table during the reception, but if I had a large wedding I would defintely do it.

We're having a receiving line, but at the cocktail hour. At most, it will be us plus our parents - possibly just us.

We are only having 82 people at the wedding so I guess I can do it or skip it. Hmmmm...

Re: Who is doing a receiving line?
I am doing it. I know there are people coming to the church to see me get married that won't be at the reception. I think its only right to thank people at the church, being that it is the most important part of the day. JMO

Me three. Time permitting, I think it's the polite thing to do. I also am expecting ~100 guests so it's manageable. If I had 150-200 guests I would perhaps reconsider...

Re: Who is doing a receiving line?
I had 250 people and I had quite a number of people at the church and it was awesome.. esp. believe or not seeing people that weren't invited to my wedding, were at the church.. and mind you, I live in LI and had my ceremony in NYC.. so that meant soo much to me..

I agree, you should do one. I did, I can't see not greeting people who came to see us marry.

Re: Who is doing a receiving line?
I feel like a schmo for not wanting to do one! But I'm marrying at the hall, and the CH starts right after the ceremony. I figure I can say hello to everyone, either during the cocktail hour or the reception.... Is it a really bad faux pas to not have one???

I think its a bit of a different story if you are getting married at the hall. You will be seeing those people right after your ceremony at the coctail hour and reception. For me, I am getting married at a church first and I know there are a lot of people coming to the church from work, my students for example, and I want to be sure to thank them for coming and sharing in the ceremony.

Re: Who is doing a receiving line?
I think it is a nice thing to do. That way you get a little time with each guest and can relax a bit at the reception. It is proper to thank everyone, pain in the ass or not.

Re: Who is doing a receiving line?
i have to because many people who are not invited are going to the church, like my students and their families. I will make it a brief one, but I will have one.
