Who is doing/ did their own makeup?

and why did you decide against having someone else do it?

I really dont know what to do. I dont wear foundation at all - I've had it put on me before - but I hate the way I look. I have peach fuzz on my face which isnt noticeable when I have no makeup on my face - but once i put foundation on it is obvious. PLus it makes me look so much older than I am.

I also dont like the way makeup artists do my eye make-up. I've been doing my own for years now (i use creme shadows) and it looks really good. For my brother's wedding i did my own and it looked just as good as the other girls that had their makeup done by an makeup artist.

I'm just curious to hear the reasons why everyone else who isnt having a professional do their makeup - chose that route.

Thanks!

Maybe i'll take pics of my makeup done up and show you girls.

Re: Who is doing/ did their own makeup?

I don't know how to put on makeup LOL! That is why I need someone to do it for me.

If you can do it yourself and you like the way it looks then I say go for it!

You know, I had really considered doing my own makeup as well. For those of us who wear makeup every day, and have gotten pretty good in applying it over the years, it almost seemed silly, other than for pampering purposes, to pay someone to do it. I'm sure you do your makeup really well and posting some pics for confirmation would be great. I decided against doing my own makeup though mainly because while the makeup I do myself looks great in person, it doesn't photograph well. It's my experience that a camera has a way of distorting the effect you intended to achieve with your makeup application. Also, I am going to be a nervous wreck that day and if I keep misapplying my makeup and having to re-do it, it will only add to my anxiety.

Also, a real professional makeup artist would (or at least should) encourage you to remove what you're calling 'peach fuzz' before the makeup application? I would think. Why don't you post a couple of pics so we could give you some real feedback?

Re: Who is doing/ did their own makeup?

I'm considering doing it myself. I wear makeup and can apply it. Basically, the makeup artist would give me a very similar look to what I do for myself. Unfortunately, I haven't found anyone who actually gives me the look I ask for. I'm looking for something a little dramatic but, so far, that's been interpreted as either 'natural' or 'clown'.

I'm still looking for one because (1) I would like for my mom and me to be pampered on my wedding day, (2) I want more of a 'glow' and (3) I want to be sure the makeup lasts all day. The clock is counting down though...

I don't know what I will be doing yet. I still can't find someone that is not booked yet for my date or someone that comes to Brooklyn

Re: Who is doing/ did their own makeup?

I AM A MAKEUP ARTIST AND I STILL AM HAVING SOMEONE DO MY MAKEUP. I WASNT SURE....BECAUSE I AM VERY PARTICULAR ABOUT WHAT I WANT. BUT MY FUTURE SIS IN LAW IS A MAKEUP ARTIST TOO AND I TRUST HER! I JUST RATHER HAVE THINGS DONE FOR ME ON MY DAY. BUT!! I AM HAVING HER DO IT WAY BEFORE HAND. BECAUSE IF FOR SOME REASON I AM NOT THRILLED, THEN I AM DEFINATELY DOING IT MYSELF.

Re: Who is doing/ did their own makeup?

I think before you make a final decision you should have a couple of trials, just to make sure that youwould feel more cofortable doing it yourself. Also, take pictures after each trial, because makeup photographs much differently than it looks in person. I loved the way my makeup looked (because I wanted a very light natural look- I don't wear makeup on a daily basis) but in pictures I see that I could have easily gotten away with wearing more. Oh, and I did have a prefessional makeup artist do my makeup.

Re: Who is doing/ did their own makeup?

My friend (non-professional) did my makeup and she did an excellent job. I chose not to get a professional for 2 main reasons. First, when I have had it done a few times in the past, I didn't like it and it felt too heavy to me. I don't wear much makeup on a regular basis, so I don't really know how to express what I want or don't want. My friend knows me well enough to know what I would like and I think she applied it so it looked very natural and I felt good wearing it- my skin could breathe. Second was the cost. I just couldn't justify spending all that money on trials and then the final product, when I didn't think I would like the end result.
