Who knows about blocking Hotels

Who knows about blocking Hotels

Ok so I called to book rooms and they gave me a rate of $129 per night for king size bed. Ok fine but now he wants my credit card and said that if I cancel the entire block I will get charged one night. Does anyone know exactly how this charge works and the time I have to cancel and release rooms back?

When I blocked rooms, I wasn't charged anything...nor did I have to give my CC#.
Can you look for another hotel? Usually, they block the rooms and three weeks or so before the wedding, any unblocked rooms are released to other guests. I wouldn't want to risk being charged

How badly do you want to block rooms at this hotel? Is it a deal breaker for you? It was for us, that's why I ask.

We didn't deal with hotels that would ask for credit card info for blocks. There should be no penalty for cancelling since the block ends 30 days prior to the event - around here that's plenty of time to book the rooms.

Try telling the hotel they are only hotel that is requesting this and that you do not intend to cancel the block and in that event you will provide the cc number then. I would be uncomfortable with them having my cc numbers 'just in case'. What if they charge you for the unreserved blocked rooms?

We had to guarantee 10 rooms for two nights and we did leave a credit card. We didn't think twice about it, though, because we knew that we would have at least three times that number of rooms booked because we had a lot of out of town guests. I think it is fairly common.

Same here - actually, I think we're tlaking about the same hotel.

We blocked 25 rooms and have to guarantee 10 - which is cake (ours is also included in the 10 room guarantee). We'll probably wind up needing more rooms.

But you will hear a lot of people who did leave a CC# and a lot who didn't. Depends on the hotel. Either way, make sure you sign a contract.

Haha - you say talking, I say tlaking. How can we be sure?

I blocked 2 hotels, and I didn't have to leave a credit card # with either of them. I wouldn't have blocked with them if I had to, but I also wasn't sure how many guests would be blocking rooms.
