My dad made a welcome speech at the very beginning, and then my MOH and my DH's BM made speeches.

Re: Who made/will make a toast at your wedding?
Already this is interesting to me. I decided to do this poll because my husband's father was upset that no one asked him to make a speech at my wedding. I tried to explain that the father of the groom making a speech is not common, but he didn't believe me. I'm sure it's does happen sometimes, but I had never heard of that practice. So far, no one said that the groom's father made a speech.

the only reason my dad might make a speech--is cause some of his family is flying all the way from Peru, and a lot of spanish speaking relatives will be there too---he'll probably have a speech in spanish for them....on top of the MOH and BMan speeches

Re: Who made/will make a toast at your wedding?
we are doing BM/MOG/family speeches at the RD and FH and I are doing a speech at our reception to welcome everyone and thank everyone for coming. We know our family members can go on, and on, and on and we dont want to 'waste' fun reception time.

We only had our BM give a speech.
Honestly, you don't want a lot of people giving speeches. They all basically say the same thing, wishing you lots of luck and no one really enjoys sitting there listening to people drone on. I'd have a max of 2 people give a speech and leave more time for dancing and just having a good time.

I wanted my MOH to make a toast, but she is shy and warned me that if I force her to do it there will be things in the toast that I might now want exposed for public consumption... so now it is just the BM.

We're having our MOH, Best Man, FOB/MOB, FOG/MOG and a couple of our groomsmen.
We are doing this only becuase we are trying to combine what is normal here and what is normal where I'm from (canada).
I LOVE speeches. When I attend weddings I really look forward to them becuase most of the time they are hilarious!!!!

Whether it is typical or not... If he really wants to.. why not let him.. seems like its something important and special to him.
That is really sweet of him to want to

Under normal circumstances I would agree, but after getting to know him, I've learned that he just likes to be the star of the show, if you know what I mean.

We're hoping for our BM and MOH, but I'm not sure if my MOH will want to. She's very shy, but it'll make me and FH smile and happy that she's past the shyness for others.
