I have decided that I want to find out the sex of the baby, my husband does not want to know. I have 2 daughters and I really just want to be able to prepare. After speaking with a bunch of my girlfriends today they came up with a great idea. They suggested I have the sex of the baby put in an envelope after my level II on Monday, then have a big dinner party at our house with all family and friends and open up the envelope at that time with everyone here!! I thought this was a great idea, everyone would be so excited knowing they'd find out right before dinner and then we could share in the excitement together rather than just with a phone call at the time of the birth. Any thoughts? Who do you think has more influence on deciding to find out or not?

That sounds like a great idea. But you might also consider you finding out and not telling him (or anyone else) ... though I don't know how well you'd be able to keep that giant secret -- I know I couldn't!
My cousin did that envelope thing. They weren't sure if they wanted to know or not so she had the doc put it in a sealed envelope. Well... they NEVER looked at it!!! I don't know how she held out for so long but she did not look and they found out when the baby was born!

Wow, that's such a great idea! I think I might steal that idea for my next pregnancy. How fun for everybody to find out together!

I decided that I didn't want us to know. Scott wanted us to know. I overrode his decision since I was the pregnant one.

What a great idea - that would be so much fun!!! If you had it in a sealed envelope - oh the suspense would just kill me

We agreed we didn't want to know. Next time we will find out. I think the envelope idea is great. Even if you an DH open it alone. Makes it more personal than to find out in the Docs office.

I totally agree that the preggo has the final say. IMO that goes without saying Luckily, both my DH and I didnt want to find out the gender either time - I would have hate to have to pull rank on him.
Your idea is so cute. Let us know how it all works out.

DH and I found out at the sono. We had our parents and my grandparents over for cake and coffee afterwards. I had baked a chocolate cake and bought vanilla icing. So when we got home I dyed the frosting pink and wrote 'its a girl' on the cake.
When everyone arrived I had them sit down and everyone had to close their eyes. I put the cake in the middle of the table and then said 'open your eyes'. I think the picture below says it all :)
