Re: Who makes this gown? and The right gown for my shape?
I posted on the other thread that it may be a Melissa Sweet gown, I figured I'd post here too just because

If you are 5'8' and thin, you would probably look fab in an a-line or a sheath. With the right seamstress, you could probably pull off a mermaid too. Go to brides . com and they have a feature that picks the best dresses for your type.

it is a priscilla of boston....and very beautiful. based on your description, i think you should be looking for modified A line dresses. that is what i bought and is not poofy but not hugging the body. good luck.

So I'm clueless....what's 'modified A line'? How do they typically differ from reg. 'A line'?

Thank you everyone! I'm going to see if I can find similar dresses on the the designer website. I'm not sure I like the lace on the side. I want something w/ beading!!!!

Those are really great! But I find that in the slender/short/petitte sections, they contradict one another... The first link says straight gowns will make you look taller, and the 2nd says straight look not so nice What the hell?!?! LoL
I'm in love with a mermaid type gown... I'm 5'2, 115# with all the weight in my butt & thighs Hopefully, when I finally go to try it on, it will look good

I am 5'8' and thin, and I bought an A line as I thought it looked best on me, so I agree that is what would look great. I tried on some sheaths and if you have complaints about your hips, this is not the dress type for you. I feel that my hips are a little big (as I was told once - by a male classmate in high school, I don't know how I did not strangle him - that I have 'child bearing hips') and the dress definitely hugged them. With alternations it might have fit better, but it just wasn't comfortable for me.

My hips are weird they're not very shapely. I kind of wish they were more rounded and higher up. I don't even think that makes sense but I feel like my hips are too low.
I don't think I'd be comfortable in a sheath. I think something slim with some flare will be the way to go. I don't want to be self conscious all day.

to be honest - 5'8 and thin would be absolutely STUNNING in a mermaid...(but of course if u don't like that style then i understand!)...i would suggest trying on all different kinds...u might be suprised by what u like! i would've NEVER thought my three final dresses i loved so much were so different than i expected!

Your'e right - trying on different styles is a good idea.
I thought I wanted a regular A Line gown but I feel like I get lost in them.
I sort of hope I don't like the mermaid gowns because my cousin wore one for her wedding and i want my dress to stick out as something totally different.

I agree -- the kind of dress i thought I would get was nothing like what I got. (And my RH was also very different from what I thought I would get!) So definitely try on tons. I can understand you wanting to look different from your cousin -- but I also think no one will be comparing you to your cousin on your wedding day. They'll only be saying how lovely YOU look!!!!
