Who owns a timeshare?

Who owns a timeshare?

Which one do you own?
Do you like it?
What are pros and cons?
Was it expensive?
(sorry for all of the questions)
Still debating the Disney Vacation Club, but thought maybe I should look into other timeshares too....

Re: Who owns a timeshare?

My parents own one in aruba and while it was cool at first, my mother has grown to hate it. when you purchase the time share you also have to purchase the time in which you travel 'high peak, peak, off peak' etc... they were also given a huge book of places they could trade the time share to stay elsewhere. my mom said in the almost 10 years they had this share, she was NEVER ONCE able to upgrade the hotel even when she tried booking 9+ months in advance. Everything was always already booked. She always found it really suspicious. This is a major company they deal with also, not some Joe Shmo Time Share Co.

Also i dont know if you are interested in european travel, but it seems all the time share places in europe are outside the city... imagine travellling to NYC and your hotel is in Commack. That sort of thing...

Not to be completely negative, my parents love aruba and just came back (again) about a month ago... if you always want to travel to the same place, it could be a great deal. But if you think you're gonna be sick of Disney in 5 years I would not do it.

ETA -- I stayed with them in the time share when they traded it for las vegas... our hotel was not on the strip. Imagine going to vegas and not staying on the strip??? Definitely changed the experience. That's what I mean about trading and getting hotels slightly off the beaten path...

Re: Who owns a timeshare?

We own two timeshares and We love one and hate the other. We bought a peak share and also a gold crown in Orlando Florida. We have traded it in and stayed in many differnt places through RCI. Because we have a desireable timeshare, it is easy for us to trade. My dh loves it because it is a golfers heaven. We also own a week in the Bahamas. Now, the only thing I don't like about this time share is that the people are so SLOW!!!! They are slow doing paper work and slow trading in the week.

Each of the timeshares are for life. The thing with the Vacation Club is that the lifetime of ownership is 30 years. We can will our timeshare to family if we want. We can also try to sell if we want.

We also have 2 timeshares through RCI. One in Disney and the other in Myrtle Beach. We are on a points system. The 2 timeshares we have are a total of 63,000 points. If we want to go someplace else the max points for the nicest place in the RCI program is 9,000 points which means we can take up to 7 vacations a year for a minimal price. For us its worth it!

My parents were between Marriott and Disney (you know us!!). They went with Marriott because it was more flexible and with Disney you only own it for 50 years, (i think). They own it down in Orlando at the Marriott Grand Vista and it is amazing. I think it was between $10,000- 12,000 (I have to double check with my parents on that.) and they get two weeks a year. Plus they get the option of 'getaways' where being a memeber gets you these extra vacations at different timeshares through Interval International. They've stayed in Orlando at a Marriott resort for $199 for the week. Jaime and I used it over Thanksgiving and it was awesome. I dont' know if Tom likes golfing, but the Marriott Grand Vista has a golf course and you can play unlimitted golf for the week for around $130. If you have any quesitons, let me know!!

Nancy,
That actually sounds great for Tom. He LOVES golfing. Maybe I should look into this one instead of Disney! By the way...how are your wedding plans going?

they're going well. kind of at a standstill since we're so far away, but we're getting there! Thanks for asking!

If you have any questions, seriously let me know. The place is gorgeous. Its close to Sea World and about a 7 minute drive to Disney.

Hope things are going well with you guys!
