Re: who pays?
These days, it is different on who pays for what. Traditionally, bride's parents pay for everything except the rehearsal dinner/tuxes.
We are paying for everything. My dad gave us a contribution, my mom paid for my dress and is doing my centerpieces and his parents are paying for our e-party and rehearsal dinner.

Re: who pays?
i think usually the couple pays for and throws the engagement party, unless someone else offers to do it.
my fsil threw and paid for ours...but i have just heard that.
as for everything else, i think the traditional way is that the girl's parents pay for the wedding, the guy's parents pay for the rehearsal dinner...but i don't really know too much about that either since we are paying for our wedding ourselves since my family is poor. lol...
but fh's dad said he'll pay for our rehearsal dinner and my mom said she'll pay for our honeymoon. so at least we only have to worry about the wedding.
....'ONLY'....HAHAHA!!

Re: who pays?
well i dont think there is a rule for that..
i'm actualyl really lucky because my parents and FIL paid for our eparty. they are also splitting costs with us on a lot of things.. i was shocked that FIL offered to pay for things. Its going to save FH and I a lot of money.
But if you really want one, look into places. You may try a park and do a BBQ. find out prices and talk to your parents about it. maybe you can work something out. You may even be able to offer splitting it with them with the money you recieve as gifts.
hope it works out for you.

Re: who pays?
NOWadays not everyone goes by who traditionally pays for what...Traditionally, the brides parents pay for e-party, reception, wedding dress, limos and most of the things...Grooms parents traditionally pay for Rehearsal dinner, certain flowers, honeymoon, hotel for the night of.
BUt nowadays many couples pay for things themselves, or if they have someone help it doesnt have to go by is traditionally said someone has to pay for...If they offer then let them pay for whatever they are comfortable paying for.

Re: who pays?
It seems now a days it's the couple who pays for things unless parents offer. My parents offered to have an engagement party for me... as long as I planned it.... a year later... still no party. Engagement parties don't have to be anything big. I just wanted to invite people out to dinner and get the families to mix and mingle. Our parents only met once before.

Re: who pays?
yeah my parents offered to pay for the e-party but i ended up putting in alot of my own money...I bought all the favors, invitations, menu's, flowers, favor boxes, ribbon, and a bunch of other things. So i contributed towards it
and FH's parents ended up paying for the dj, we were gonna do it but they offered after we hired the DJ and his mom surprised us with a videographer.
If you want an e-party then talk to your parents, and are you willing to help pay for it?

Re: who pays?
i dont think there is anything set in stone about who pays for what. Everyones family has different situations. And i feel that if either the brides family or grooms family wants to help and contribute then that is great!

Re: who pays?
My parents gave us the e-party. We didn't even want one. But they said they wanted to do it for us. And there paying for the entire wedding. And FH's parents will do the rehersal dinner.
Traditionally the brides parents pay for the wedding and the grooms parents for the rehersal and the honeymoon. But these days alot of couples are paying for everything themselves. Alot of people don't hav emoney for an e-party either. they rather it be spent on the wedding.
I know one couple went and had this huge e-party that her parents paid for. And they told her it's either the e-party or the wedding. they couldn't do both so she wanted the -eparty and then afterwards expected them to still pay for the wedding. ANd in the end her FH had to pay for everything outta his pocket she didn't even contribute. He was so pissed!!!

Re: who pays?
Dont know if its written in stone..but in my family..or culture...or as far as I know...
The parents pay for the E-party... The bride and groom..take the $$$ they get at the E-party and use it for the downpayment for the hall or if a small wedding can pay for most of it.
