i was reading up on 'wedding etiquette' and it said the general rule of thumb is that the bride and groom usually pay for hotel arrangements for the bridal party . Have any of you heard about this? I really don't think we could afford paying for hotel rooms for everyone in my bridal party since most are coming from OOT and with their own +1s. My father also said he heard this was true...I thought, ok, maybe about 20-30 years ago but not anymore. any thoughts??

Yeah, I dont think this is true. It may have been true 30 years ago, but now I don't think any my girls would expect for me to pay for their hotel rooms or anything else, for that matter. I would expect the same treatment if I was in a bridal party.

well technically for almost all the BMs and GMs, it's a destination wedding...4 bms are coming from Canada and the UK and all the groomsmen are coming to NY from puerto Rico. I just don't see how i could put them all up in hotel rooms. I mean i know they have to pay for plane tickets too but i figured if they all know more than a year in advance they could hopefully save up.
I went to a wedding with my FH in upstate NY (4 hours away). FH was a groomsman and the bride and groom paid for our hotel the night of the wedding.
I think the etiquette might be to pay for the night of the wedding..not 100% sure though.

I've heard of this...generally though, it isn't practiced anymore. Most couples will host a post-nuptial brunch in place of. I like this option more bc you get to spend extra quality time with your VIPs, without distractions on a more personal level.

really? that would be nice if we had the $. I mean i just can't see paying for at least 7-8 rooms the night of the wedding in addition to already having a dinner party on New Years Eve for all the OOT guests....i just wanted to know if it's expected of us. anyone else know?

I really hope thats not true! Several of my bridesmaids will need hotel accommodations and FH and I just dont have the $$$ in our budget to put everyone up in a hotel.

I never heard of the bride and groom paying for their BP's hotel rooms...I was in my sister's destination wedding and she didn't pay for ours. If you are also hosting a brunch or a party for them, I don't think you have to also pay for their hotel rooms...like you said, it would be nice if you could, but it's not necessary.

You would probably be able to get a nice group rate, plus ask about Triple A discounts

I was a bridesmaid in a wedding OOT and the bride paid for a hotel room for me to be shared with another bridesmaid. If I chose to bring a date with me (this is before I met FH), I would have had to get my own hotel room. This may be an idea--offering the idea to to room together if they don't bring dates.

My friend at work was a MOH in a destination wedding and she paid for her own plane & hotel stay for 3 days...I do not think it is expected

Not anymore maybe if you a memeber of the BP coming from oot and u would like to pay for there room for night but otherwise you dont have to!

I'm paying for whoever wants to crash with me, however, if they bring dates they will have to book a room on their own.
