Who pays for flowers?

Who pays for flowers?

I've heard that the groom's parents pay for flowers. Is that true? My FI and I are paying for the wedding ourselves. My FI and I don't know if we should ask his parents to pay for the flowers, they are already paying for the rehearsal dinner.

FI and I paid for them.. We figured if someone wanted to pay for something, they would offer.

I don't think there are rules on these things anymore. Just depends on the people involved, their financial situation, and what they want to do.

We are not following any rules and are paying for everything. I agree that if someone wanted to pay for something they would offer

I asked my FI to say something to his parents about paying for the flowers. I know its tradition for them to pay for some of them and so its easier to ask them to pay for an actual part thats traditional then to contribute money. My parents and I are paying for the entire wedding so I don't think its asking for a lot esp. since we are hosting the e-party and everything. I wouldn't wait for them to volunteer only because I doubt they would feel comfortable on how to phrase it or approach the situation. His parents are very concious of other people's feelings and they may think that they are overstepping their boundaries or insulting my parents by offering money. Does this make sense?

i am not sure how this all works since fh & i are paying for every thing except my gown & rehearsal dinner.

I don't think the groom's family is responsible for paying for the flowers. I believe the tradition is that they only pay for the rehersal dinner.

I just dont beleive in asking anyone to pay for anything.
I think its great that parents pay for weddings but when 2 ppl decide to plan a wedding they should also know that there are lots of expenses and should be prepared to pay for all of them themselves.
If his parents offer, thats wonderful.. but I don't think it is right to just come out and ask them too.

I have never heard this. The usually pay for the RD. The flowers for ours are coming out of my 'wedding budget' that my dad gave us. If FI parents have the money and you think they may want to then there is no harm in asking.

I agree with you, HappyBride,
I never heard of them paying for flowers. I wouldn't ask. FH and I are paying for ours, along w/almost everything else. If they volunteer, that's a different story, of course take it as a gift, but if not, then pay for it yourselves. (especially since they are already paying for the RD)

Re: Who pays for flowers?

Here it is:
The groom (or his family) usually pays these wedding expenses: Bride's engagement and wedding rings. Marriage license. Clergyman's or judge's fee (it can range from $50-$500; ask). Bride's flowers, including going-away corsage and bouquet (see below). Boutonnieres for men in wedding party. Corsages for mothers (see below). Gloves, ties, ascots for male attendants. Wedding gift for the bride. Complete wedding trip. Gifts for the best man and ushers. Lodging (if any) for out-of-town ushers. Rehearsal dinner (optional).

Imagine asking for them to pay for all of this!!! The shock! Tradition definitly doesn't rule in my wedding, but sometimes (for me anyway) it's easeir to go by.

Happy,

I would normally agree with you. Since they are paying for it themselves and think FI parents may be willing to help it may not hurt to ask.

I don't think there are 'traditions' when it comes to weddings anymore. If you are planning on getting married then you should also plan on paying for it, unless others have offered to help. I don't think it's right to ask others to pay for elements of your wedding just because it's stated as 'tradition'. There are many factors people have to take into consideration, the biggest being the expense. Many parents can't afford to help and I don't think they should be put on the spot to pay for things when they haven't specifically offered. JMO!
