Who pays for the engagement party??? GREEK BRIDES!

It is my understanding that the groom pays for the engagement party!!!!! My groomzilla is saying something different!!! My European brides...WHAT IS TRADITION????

We are not European, but we paid for our own e party.

I'm Greek, FH is Greek and my parents footed the bill for the E-Party.

We are all helping out. My dad is doing some, my FIL's are hosting it, my FH and I are purchasing decorations/alcohol (we are having a Luau). My mom is doing semo fun cooking, my sister (MOH) is mailing out the invites.....we are all helping

I don't know what the Greek etiquette is, but generally who ever is hosting the party should pay for it. I don't think engagement parties are really a 'requirement' in most cultures. So, if you want to put the party together and throw it as a couple, then you both pay for it. If your (or his) parents want to give the party, then they pay for it.

same here...
I guess nowadays it depends on what understanding the families come to.
If u really wanna examine things the traditional way to do things is that the brids parents pay for it all..the whole shubang..except the bedroom set and the party that is thrown for what we call the ' krevati'
other that that all the groom needs to do is show up at the church in a tux

ETA: the e-party was not part of the traditional preperation for the wedding... so i dont know if there is a real answer to the question based on tradition

'traditionally' the bride's family pays for the eparty and the grooms for the rehersal dinner....we'll be paying for BOTH...haha

I'm greek -- we didn't have an eparty -- but I think if we had my parents would have paid for it.. I think traditionally the brides parents pay for everything. My FIL (not Greek) are payinf or the rehearsal dinner. Nowadays most people don't really follow tradition too strictly. It depends on the agreement the families come to.

I'm not Greek... but the whole concept of 'his money' versus 'my money' is lost on me. It's OUR money... Then again, maybe that's b/c we've had all of our bank accounts joint for a while. In the end, the money is both of yours - I'm not sure it's worth nit picking over who pays for what at this point.

i dont think she is really talking about his vs our.. it hink it moe along the line of, ' what are my PARENTS contributing and what his PARENTS contributing?'
His parentsx $ is not hers and her pernts $ is not his soo.. i think thats where the questiong came from.

ETA: i agree that if it was btw them 2... there shouldnt be an issue. me and FH pay for everything WE are responsable for together and done think twice about it.

That's not what I got from the post, so sorry if I misinterpreted it. The post states she thinks the GROOM is supposed to pay for the party.

Maybe she meant the groom's family. Sorry!
