Who pays for the room blocking for out of towners

My mother and I were talking about our out of town guests and blocking the hotel rooms. Who pays for the reservation? I would assume that I do and how many nights do you block it for?? I am so confused. We are having trouble with where everyone will stay. I am like 'another expense I have to worry about!' My mom also said to me 'do you realize that this will cost your aunt $1,000 to come to the wedding.' How do I go about blocking the rooms and not have to pay more money!

You block the rooms to hold a special price offered by the hotel for blocking a certain amount. Your guests pay for the actual room.

You don't pay to block rooms, all you do is reserve them so that your guests can get the discounted price. They pay for their own rooms. I think the way it goes is that if you do not fill up all the rooms you've blocked off, then those will be released and your guests will pay the regular price versus the blocked room rate. But you don't pay to reserve them.

You usually do not have to pay to block the rooms. They hold them for a limited time for you at a special rate, but your guests would be the ones actually paying for them. The hotel we used didn't make us pay anything and they held the special rate until one month before the wedding date.

You just hold them for the guests to reserve under that better price, and the guests pay. If your aunt can't afford the hotel, mayeb she can stay with a relative or friend in the area??

Most hotels does not charge a fee for blocking rooms. You sign a contract with XYZ amount of rooms and your guests pay for the rooms themselves. You need to speak/meet with the sales office of the hotel you're interested in blocking rooms. Usually the hotel rate for the room blockage is slightly less than the normal hotel rate.

I am blocking rooms for my guests they get a special rate but I am under no obligation to pay for the rooms. The guests must secure the rooms one month prior to the wedding, after that htey could still get rooms but they might not have the special rate.
