I know it's different for each, but whats the standard??
Both sets of parents have offered to help but I need to go to them for each individual expense.
Im lucky, obviously since its not coming out of my pocket (i was going to elope and was convinced otherwise by the 'powers that be' (namely MOB and FMH) - but maybe I can get a list together of payment responsibilities, have bboth families agree and then just forward expenses?

first, i would ask each side what they can afford, then go from there. this way you have a figure you can work with and whatever you and fh can add.

My parents are paying for their guests and my friends, my dress, and odds and ends... FH's parents are paying for their guests and FH friends, RD... FH and I are paying for the band, photographer, and flowers...however, our parents are throwing us some cash along the way (FH's parents paid the deposit on the band)
Honestly, every wedding is different, there aren't too many 'rules' you must abide by.

this is basically how we did it. asked my parents and fw parents for what they were willing to contribute and went from there.

Unfortunately, when I ask, they say 'just tell us how much to write a check for'. Doesnt help much with creating a budget - although I am thankful that I dont have to pay much.

I can tell you what was our situation:
My parents paid for the reception hall, my dress, alterations, and all accessories, favors and invitations.
His parents paid for the florist, limos, DJ, photographer and videographer and the rehearsal dinner.
We paid for the Church, our honeymoon and tips.
I don't remember what other expenses we had (I know their were a few more, but I can't think of them right now).
