Excerpt from an email I just received from my FMIL (whom I love dearly):
Ask Todd to explain Vicki to you – her question to me was “What do people wear to a wedding in New York?” I wanted to say “clothes”! She is such a trip – I’m sure she will wear something very noticeable! She has a great figure and is petite so she looks good in just about anything but it will have to be a big deal and all about her! I promise we’ll make sure she doesn’t try to walk up the aisle with you!
These are not things we joke about with a very fragile bride whose already worried what the OOTers will wear to her pretty formal wedding.

Sounds like FMIL will try to keep her in line. Don't worry- No one can upstage the bride and if they really try - they end up looking really stupid and selfish.

I feel your pain, I wouldn't be suprised if my FMIL and FSIL both wear attention grabbing outfits...

Jeez, seriously. I am sure FMIL will take care of it. She must be an attention - getter, we all have one of those

Re: Who says this to a very soon to be bride??
We all have one of those-Mine was my former MOH. She called my dress choices 'tacky' said my CP would look like 'ghetto homes' and insisted she wear a dress with this HUGE bow that made her look like a package, so she would 'stand out.' Needless to say, I finally had to scrap her.
Some people are just natural born diavs, but it looks like your FMIL is on your side. It will be fine. At elast your mom didn't say she planned to wear black to your wedding....
Hint much?

Sounds like your FMIL is aware of a potential issue with 'Vicky' but is trying to take care of it for you. I got the impression that she was trying to put you at ease instead of upset you.

I'm not *that* upset, but I just didn't like getting an email that says in Vicky's head 'it has to be all about her.'
Just not the thought I wanted to have today.
I'm not trying to be bridezilla... I just didn't want to think about this today.
Vicky, btw, is in her 60s.

Oh my... 60's??? Now I really have to I was thinking it was a young girl. But either way, I can understand how you feel. At least your FMIL is cognisant of the issue and will try to avoid any drama. Remember, there is ALWAYS someone who wants it to be about them. At least in this case, you have someone on your side trying to put them in their place!

60's....
Ok I know you didn't want to think about it today but honestly, you can't be uspet abou that. She's an older woman and older people just get weird. They lose their filters. if she acts up, let her know this is not 'Steel magnolias,' 'Fried Green Tomatoes,' or 'Calender Girls,' and she is not Shirley McClaine or any other actress that could pobably give us youngaroos some tips on style.

My parents are in their 60s and all filters are clean in working order.
There will (hopefully!) be so many people there that no one will notice.

Don't feel bad- My wedding is 79 days away and the lady at the post office asked me when I'm having my baby. Um....so much for the wedding diet I'm on!! Who says THAT?
