My replies are coming in, very exciting! I've had 5 no's so far. The dynamics at my work place have also been changing and I'm going to be working even closer in a team than before, including having my solo office taken and my moving to a large conference room office with some of the team.
Before the change in work dynamics, I had been considering inviting my boss, and two other gals on my team and their spouses. The wedding costs kept spiraling and I held off adding anyone to the invite list. There are 3 other people on the team, 2 of them married.
If I invite all my team member and my boss, that would be 6 people. I have only 5 openings which means I'd have to pay out one additional spot. I can probably afford to pay for that 1 team member but not, 4 more team members spouses.
Do you think it is awful if I invite my team without their spouses?

Re: Who to invite?
I plan on inviting with spouses. I think it's the right thing to do. But if you can't afford it just invite the original people. If anyone says anything just say you had a limited amount of space and money. I am sure they will understand.

I agree completely.. Plus you dont need the added stress of ticking some people off and creating tension at work.. but if you cant afford it ... then explain the money and space aspect

Re: Who to invite?
i hate to say it, but i strongly believe that not inviting someone who is married is better than inviting them w/o spouse. i just feel like even now that i'm engaged, i would be upset if FH was invited to a wedding w/o me. when we're married i would be even more upset.
that's a tough situation, but i'm sure you'll figure it out.
good luck!!

I think inviting without the spouse makes people feel awkward. It is one thing if that is a custom in your office where you don't invite the spouse. Leave out the other members if you can't afford it - everyone understands there are limits to people's budgets

Re: Who to invite?
IMO even if you're over by 1- I wouldn't tell the RH that. We paid for a few extra seats for our reception only to find that about 8 people didn't make it!!!! One threw his back out and his fiancee only came for the cocktail hour (as did his mom) because they wanted to get home to tend to him and I know someone else got sick and someone else had a close friend die, ... my point is that even though all of these people say they're going to be there- you may very well get a few who can't. I wouldn't want to be invited without my husband- if I was I'd probably decline. I worked closely with a team for 3 years and only 2 of the 5 that I invited came (with their spouses)- the other 3 already had vacation planned or felt it was too far of a trip (he lived in NJ and I'm out on the east end of LI).

Re: Who to invite?
I think married people should be invited with spouse. Unless you explain to them the circumstance. The same thing happened to a girl I worked with and she was going to invite her friends from work w/o spouse. FH decided they would invite w/ spouse so talk it over with him.
