Who walked you down aisle? Dad or Step-Dad

Who walked you down aisle? Dad or Step-Dad

I suppose this is a dilemma that only I can solve in my own heart, but I'm kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place and could use a bit of advice.

My biological father was a big part of my life for the first 12 years or so (parents divoreced when I was six, but I saw him on weekends)....than around 13 or so, he became a long-distance father and eventually we stopped all communication for about 5 years (both of us were very stubborn--and I was a typical teenager)........my Step-father came into my life around 13 and he essentially became my 'father' for the next 12 years or so. Then recently, my father and I have started talking again and have a 'half-a$$ed' relationship. He rarely calls me and I am usually the only one to keep contact and set up times to see each other. However, my stepfather and mother are playing a HUGE role in our wedding and will be there for every step of the process.

My step-father feels he has earned the right to walk me down the aisle alone---and quite frankly, I don't blame him for feeling this way. He has earned every right to do just that, however, I know how extremely hurt my biological father would be to see that occur in front of him. SO, as of right now, I'm planning on having them BOTH walk me down the aisle. Either that, or have Mom walk me down to avoid any hurt feelings.

Do you girls have any experiences with this or any similar situations???? I'd love your imput on the situation. I hadn't even thought about the whole 'dance' things until I saw the other post tonight......OMG---such drama!!! I'm truly torn. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. THanks!!!

haha - sorry about that post!

Umm, I'm pretty sure both are walking me down the aisle. My father was essentially a 'summer father' from the time i was 5... My dad always called, and helped my mother make important decisions, but my step-fathe was there every step of the way for the little things and the big things (in my eyes little things are the most important...)

For me personally, I want to walk down the aisle with both, my father actually told me that's what he wants since my step-father (Ed) had such an important hand in raising me. My mother thinks that Ed will decline since he'll feel that my father should be the one to walk me down... but I'm hoping he decides to walk down with me...

I know with another friend who has a similar situation to you (the dad till around 13 or so, then an on again, off again father, before her step-father - who is wonderful to her), she's actually having her brother walk her down the aisle...

Good luck with your decision!

Honestly, I'd stick with both ofthem walking you down.

Or your dad escortingyou in & then meetingyour step dad & halve him walk you the rest of the way.

But, I don't have a stepdad,so I can't completely relate &y ou are right this is a decison you really need to make for yourself.

I had my mom and my stepfather walking down the aisle together, and I walked with my father, that's how I included both of them.

My stepfather walked me, but I don't talk to my father so its a different situation.

But, my husband is close to both his father and stepfather. When his sister got married she asked them both to walk her. Their stepfather (who was more involved than their father) said No - he'd rather not do it then and told her to just have her dad. She was crushed. She finally did this - my husband and their other brother walked her, both dads stood up by the alter and when the priest said 'who gives this woman...' they both said we do....

I had my stepfather walk me out and hand me off to my father. I would rather have had both all the way but my father blew a gasket on that one even though he would never win father of the year by any category!

Kinda funny-----the 'blow the gasket' reaction is what I'm expecting from my father.....but he'll just have to deal with it. Obviously a lot can change in the next year (seriously doubt it, but hey, ya never know).....and maybe he'll become this 'Standup father', but if not, then I think I will just have them both walk me down. Either way, they will both end up hurt in some way, but a little hurt on both sides is better than REALLY hurt on one side (I think). Thanks for all the input girls.....you helped me make this a little bit easier.
