Re: who writting there own vows

We always knew that we wanted to write our own vows. There is so much that we want to say and it feels more special that it will be in our own words.

The only problem is that whenever I try to write them, I start crying uncontrollably!! Fortunately, our officiant will have a copy and can jump in if I completely lose it

I am actually writing the whole ceremony. A friend is marrying us and I bought the best book and I am writing it myself!!! it's actually really nice. I'm enjoying it much more than i thought i would..

We are. We wanted this to be personal.

we are writing our own. FH didn't want to, but i really did. so when we met w our officiant she told us she is a published writer...she said if we write our own vows we can email them to her so she can look them over...and give us feedback about them. that made us feel SOOO much better.

at first i was completely opposed to reading them off of a paper, but we are probably going to be really nervous up there...so now i'm thinking it doesn't matter, it's still coming from the heart so i think it's ok if we read off of a paper. that and having our officiant review it for us will make us feel more comfortable about it so we're excited!

the person marrying us wants us to say something special to each other - not sure if its a 'vow' so we are doing that.

FH actually suggested it first. It's something I always wanted to do but thought that he's think it was too mushy. He's getting soft in his old age! hahaha

The same goes for FH and I...I'm good with putting my feelings out there, but hes not. At least I dont think he would be in front of people. Plus I cry when the wind blows, so I dont think I'd hold up too well lol

We're not using traditional vows...but, not actually writing them either. I found a poem that I love, called 'on Friendship' that so perfectly expresses how I feel. And I told him to do the same. I said he can write it himself, or it can be a poem, or song lyrics...something that when he hears it, he feels like it's just what he'd say...if he were good with words...
I'm pretty sure he's going with 'the Wonder of You' by Elvis...it was actually suggested by my BFF...and he just loves it...

I want to write my own but I don't want it to become another thing to stress over as the wedding gets closer. I also kind of want to say the traditional vows. In other words, I have no idea

We did and it was sooooooooooo amazing to hear DH read aloud in front of all of our friends and family why he loves me so much. It made the ceremony sooooooooooo incredibly unforgetable. I definitely recommend doing this. This was the only point during the night that I cried

Re: who writting there own vows

we didn't exactly write our own---but we kind of took a few lines here and there from various readings that our officiant gave us to peruse....and from there we kind of merged it together to make the final product

this was the exact vows we did:

“I, Peter, take you Melissa, to be my wife, my partner in life and my one true love. I give you my open heart and mind my time, my attention sharing love in good times and bad- sharing my fears, hopes and dreams each day and to bring joy, strength, and imagination to our relationship. I promise to give you the best of myself and to ask of you no more than you can give. I promise to respect you as your own person- to realize that your interest, desires, and needs are no less important than my own. I will cherish our friendship and love you today, tomorrow, and forever. I will trust you and honor you. I will laugh with you and cry with you. I will love you faithfully. Come what may, I will always be there. As I have given you my hand to hold-so I give you my life to keep.

These are my solemn vows to you, as I promise to love you all the days of my life---So help me God.”
